| Munchausen03-29-07, 12:27 PM | Greetings all.. I am in the process of making a Favored Soul as a backup (in case my main dies). First is form what i have read in the countless books.. is that to cast a spell you need 1 hand/arm free for somatic spells (unless it requires two which i have yet seen) Second is I see the descriptions of the Shields.. and that with a Buckler you can still hold a weapon with the same arm and should be able to cast a spell with the other arm (see First)(And yes i know the arm with the buckler/weapon has penalties if i use it too attk etc etc). Now as for a Light Shield it says you can hold items (which I think a weapon is a item) yet you cannot actually use a weapon with that, so in a sense you could still use the arm/hand that the light shield is on to hold a weapon and still cast with the other free hand. And of course Heavy shield you cannot hold nothing in its hand. So if i am correct on the above then good. Now next is Scrolls. Again I have read many books and again it really dosent state how many hands you need to be able to cast a scroll.. do you need 1 or 2? (Yes I know you need 2 to unbind it..but then to use it can you just have it in one hand to be able to read it to cast the spell?) Which comes down to my main point.. is Can use use a scroll if you have a buckler or a light shield? Since a scroll is not a weapon (NO where have i seen it mentioned about scrolls being catagorized as weapons) and i do know that reading a scroll there is a AoO if a enemy is adjacent. The idea is having a scroll in my hand that my buckler/light shield is attached to the arm, and have a weapon in my main hand. Since using a scroll.. you only need to read it (since the caster of the scroll did all the V,S etc etc to make the scroll) and I do know you cannot normally use a scroll and use a weapon on the same round (unless the spell on the scroll is a quicken one). So any input would be nice.. or maybe i am just trying to split hairs here. |
