Knowledge (Anything other than PHB) [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-08-07, 01:08 AM I know that you can only take the Knowledge skills that are in the PHB. I'm fine with that. Makes things simple and easy.

So, with that said...is it too much to ask that Meta-orgs and Modules follow the same rule? It's a little annoying to be asked to make a "Knowledge (law) DC 20" check, or have a requirement to join be "9 Ranks of Knowledge (fuzzy bunnies)".

02-08-07, 01:14 AM Do what I always did as a player and tell the judge that a module can't override the Core rules. There is no such thing as knowledge (law), so the judge should pick an appropriate replacement that is consistent with the core rules.

Even when the Meta-orgs were drafted on the Geoff board, I made the suggestion. They still show up. Can't qualify for something if the requirement doesn't exist.

Or I get the response "well, there's another option, but it's a higher DC".

Sorry...it's just a bone of contention with me.

I'm reviewing our meta-orgs now; we have a 'Church of St. Cuthbert' with "Profession (law) 1 rank" as one of the requirements. There's no "law" listed under the Profession skill in the PHB, but it does say, "... or the like", so I think "Profession (law)" is OK? Granted, it should probably be "lawyer", but what are you gonna do ... :bored:

(BTW, Knowledge (law) would fall under Knowledge (local), according to the PHB)

There's no "law" listed under the Profession skill in the PHB, but it does say, "... or the like", so I think "Profession (law)" is OK? Granted, it should probably be "lawyer", but what are you gonna do ... :bored:

I was using Knowledge (law) as an example. In a recent module, it's used as a way to get more information. And then told that Knowledge (local) wouldn't work.
