03-21-06, 10:18 PM Okay, I'm fairly certain that I know the answer to this one, but I just want to make sure.

According to the PHB, restrictions on race for deities only applies to clerics.

If the typical worshipers of a deity include the members of a race, a cleric must be of the indicated race to choose that deity as his own. (The god may have occasional worshipers of other races, but not clerics.)

However, the Deities 2.0 document seems to say something different.

If "Others" is not listed for common or uncommon worshippers, this deity restricts its worshippers to the races listed for core worshippers. There are two exceptions to this rule. First, any deity that lists Human or any of the Human subraces (Baklunish, Suel, Flan, Oeridian, Touv, Olman) under core worshippers will accept any race as worshippers; it is just fairly rare in most parts of the Flanaess (with the exception of deities with "Others" listed for common or uncommon worshippers). Second, any deity that lists Dragon under core worshippers will also accept the following as worshippers: kobold sorcerers, characters with the Draconic Heritage feat, characters with the Dragon Friend feat, and characters with the Dragon Thrall feat.

Which (to me at least) sounds like it applies to members of all classes, not just clerics.

Can I get confirmation on whether this was intended as a change in that rule, or just a difference in phrasing?

03-21-06, 10:26 PM I know that this restriction applies to ANY and ALL classes that grant divine abilities or spells.

I'm not sure about non-divine classes. On the safe side I would say you should just stick to the restrictions as if you were a divine caster.

Example: Bob the Sorcerer advances to 3rd level then decides to take a feat that expands his spell list to encompas a divine domain. (where the spells are cast as true divine spells). As per the LG restrictions, Bob would need to choose a legal diety that grants that domain.

Somebody correct me if I am mistaken.

03-27-06, 12:56 PM Only clerics, favored souls and PrCs that require a particular deity have to worship a deity. For everyone else, paladins included, it's optional. But, if the character does worship a deity, then they have to follow the rules set out in the deities doc.
