Like many of you, I'm going through the document to figure out what changed. Here's what changed in the Open Base Classes access rules.

Added:

Beguiler (PH2)
Healer (MH)
Knight (PH2)

And, possibly, the NPC classes from the DMG, depending on how this clarification/discussion works out:

Adding Adept as an allowable base class would clarify the Limited Wish for Heal issue.

All three of these base-classes are well-balanced and none require much additional paperwork or rules items, so I feel this is a pretty safe set of additions. I do worry somewhat that new players may pick healers instead of clerics - as single-classed, they are significantly weaker - but none are at all broken.

I was looking at that, and I think a Healer could make an excellent cohort.

Can you think of any way to make Healers not significantly weaker? (or were you referring to gestalt?)
It's truly sad that Healers aren't even as good at healing as clerics.

Well, at some point your Healer cohort would have a Unicorn pal... two cohorts for the price of one? Maybe you could give him a Beastmaster level, too, heh...

That's what I was thinking. :P

Although sadly, Beastmaster probably doesn't work, since the Unicorn isn't an animal companion.

A 14th level character with a 12th level healer cohort, the cohort could have a Lammasu companion, which casts as a 7th level cleric. Not too shabby. It would be a good idea to make a healer cohort with the spontaneous healer feat and max possible wisdom too. Give them a little versatility.

Hmm... I don't know if allowing the NPC classes is such a good idea.

I'm not sure what would happen if someone showed up at a con somewhere with a 6th level Commoner with Leaderships whose cohort is also a Commoner...

Probably much yelling followed by a Benny Hill-esque chase scene :D

Well, of NPC classes: Warrior is the only other class than Fighter that is proficient in tower shields. It's not a good thing to do compared to the fighter, but it's there.

I know somebody who is curious how long a straight commoner would last in LG and may test it.
