| kjenks02-08-07, 02:21 PM | Like many of you, I'm going through the document to figure out what changed. Here's what changed in the item access rules. Added: Large items for centaurs Stat boost items +4 and +6 Vest of Resistance +2 through +5 versions of enhancement bonuses for armor, weapons and shields, Amulet of Mighty Fists, Amulet of Natural Armor, Cloak of Resistance, Ring of Protection (But unless you can craft magic items, there’s no clear upgrade path for those items. Apparently, we still have to sell for half price and buy for full when upgrading from +1 to +2.) BBB, HHH, Items from the following sources: o Complete Adventurer Table 4-1 o Complete Warrior Table 4-6 o Frostburn Table 4-1 o Races of the Dragon Colored Metal (no cost) o Races of Stone Tables 7-1 and 7-2 Deleted: Huge and tiny barding |
| Gelth02-08-07, 02:29 PM | If you check the crafting rules (I believe), then it becomes clear that anyone can hire NPC crafters to do upgrades of stuff they have access to. Or words to that effect. Anyway, upgrades can now be done by anyone, at full price. Unless I'm wrong? --Penn, Ket Triad |
| Britt02-08-07, 02:30 PM | Correct, Gelth. Ken, thanks for compiling these lists. |
| jstorrie02-08-07, 03:18 PM | On which page is the hiring-crafters-for-upgrades process described? |
| Timlagor02-08-07, 03:20 PM | Centaurs already got large items (bright sands sourcebook) |
| Britt02-08-07, 03:23 PM | On which page is the hiring-crafters-for-upgrades process described? 14. I've clarified it in my copy: Any PC may upgrade the abilities of some magic items, by hiring an NPC or by using the MIC rules, if they own the lesser item and have access to purchase the greater item. |
| trollbill02-08-07, 03:39 PM | I'm surprised you missed this one: Any DMG item with a market price of 750 GP or less from Tables 7-17, 7-23, 7-24, and 7-26. Table 7-26 is the Wand table. So the following 1st-level Wands are now Open: Detect Magic Light Burning Hands Charm Animal Charm Person Color Spray Cure Light Wounds Detect Secret Doors Enlarge Person Magic Missile Shocking Grasp Summon Monster I |
| kenobi6502-08-07, 05:04 PM | Table 7-26 is the Wand table. So the following 1st-level Wands are now Open: *snip* Cure Light Wounds Huzzah! Not that access to happy sticks was particularly difficult to come by before, but now it's a non-issue. |
| JamesMaissen02-08-07, 05:09 PM | Huzzah! Not that access to happy sticks was particularly difficult to come by before, but now it's a non-issue. It would be nice if we were divested from those random tables however. A simple 'any legal potion, scroll, or wand of any spell that's open to you worth 750gp or under' would work and be FAR less disruptive to wizards picking spells for their spellbooks when leveling, sorcerers being able to reasonably augment spells known with consumables and the like. When the odds of being able to get a particular 25gp scroll of otherwise common spells are less than being able to get a vorpal sword in a character's career then there is a problem. The only issue I've heard for it is that people don't understand what's legal for potions. But that's a core rules issue that will never go away if it's not confronted (how many illegal potions have you seen on ARs? I've seen many). -James |
| solbergb02-08-07, 05:10 PM | I've got a question. Can druids (or anyone else) buy size large necklaces and cloaks for their animal companions? Aside from the zero centaur druids or paladins with size large bonded animals, this would be a really big deal if it could be done - especially for the paladins, who could get DR/magic on the mount hoof/hoof/bite via amulet of mighty fists. But not if the access is size medium only (or small). Heck, the halfling druids and paladins might also have problems fitting out their war dogs and warponies the way the rules are written now. I'd like to open access to the necklace and cloak slots for any size, same as barding, because some characters are shapeshifters and will need it, and some characters have bonded mounts of different size and need it. The way the rules are now, a master can't spend his cash to equip his cohort very well if his cohort is a different size either. |
| kjenks02-08-07, 06:46 PM | I'm surprised you missed this one: Cool. While I was compiling my comparison lists, I didn't have my DMG handy, so I couldn't check those tables. Good work. |
| kjenks02-09-07, 04:00 PM | I just noticed that "Sandstorm Tables 4-1 and 4-2" gives access to the hide shield. This is a really nice shield. It's kinda like a tower shield, only better in several ways. The hide shield penalty is only -1 on attacks, not the -2 penalty from a tower shield. Since it's just a regular old shield, no extra feat is required for proficiency. You can take full cover with a hide shield, presumably using the FAQ rules for tower shields. My fighter/druid bought one from AR access. It significantly changed the first round of two combats in his next adventure, completely negating attacks that could have been quite painful. |
| mendahu02-10-07, 07:48 PM | I just noticed that "Sandstorm Tables 4-1 and 4-2" gives access to the hide shield. This is a really nice shield. It's a magnificant shield. My dwarven cleric has one, and its an easy way to get a solid AC (around 25ish) at lower APLs combined with full plate. Highly recommended, A+++, would bid again, etc. -Jake Robins Edmonton, AB |
| jstorrie02-13-07, 01:22 AM | Now that the splat weapons are all Open access, I would like to ask the Circle to take a look at favoured weapon equivalencies for the next LG Deities doc release - specifically, would you consider letting a deity that's into falchions also be into great falchions, or a deity into spears also be into greatspears? |
