| kjenks02-13-07, 10:51 AM | Like many of you, I'm going through the document to figure out what changed. Here's what changed in the Open Base Classes access rules. Added: Beguiler (PH2) Healer (MH) Knight (PH2) |
| Rawveggie02-13-07, 01:59 PM | My first comment is, because they did not specifically exclude the NPC base classes in the DMG, are they allowed? The relevant line in the LGCS is on page 26 at the top: "All base classes, prestige classes, feats, spells, and domains from the core rule books (PH, DMG, MM) are considered Open unless specifically noted otherwise in the appendix." I don't see any of the NPC base classes listed under the "Closed Base Classes" list. So does that mean we get to make our Commoners and Experts now? Thoughts? -Raw |
| Alpha_Nerd02-13-07, 02:00 PM | Britt has stated in other threads that NPC classes are now Open. |
| Rawveggie02-13-07, 02:55 PM | So perhaps we should add them to the list, like so: Adept (DMG) Aristocrat (DMG) Commoner (DMG) Expert (DMG) -Raw |
| Mattastrophic02-13-07, 03:32 PM | Don't forget Warrior. -Matt |
| kjenks02-13-07, 03:57 PM | I'll check my DMG and edit my original post. |
| GreatSiron02-13-07, 04:14 PM | Here's a better question: Why would anyone want to use one of those classes? |
| Bosstone02-13-07, 04:26 PM | Here's a better question: Why would anyone want to use one of those classes? Most people wouldn't, but some might, and there's no harm in including weak classes. A character doesn't need to be optimized to be fun. I could actually see the Aristocrat being used well. It doesn't have many (okay, any) class features, but its skillset makes it a good face character and it's not wholly incapable of fighting. |
| kjenks02-13-07, 04:42 PM | For a one-level dip, Adept has a pretty nice spell list to use with wands or scrolls. It's a mix of traditionally cleric and wizard spells. This could be a nice alternative to Use Magic Device for a high-level monk or fighter who wants to buff himself up. The monk already has a good incentive to have a good wisdom score. Most monks and fighters would love to be able to cast Mirror Image and See Invisibility. The trade-offs might make a level of the adept class worthwhile for some. However, with the DMG-table-driven nature of item access in LG, it might be hard to find access to divine scrolls of some of these spells. SRD === 0 Level: create water, cure minor wounds, detect magic, ghost sound, guidance, light, mending, purify food and drink, read magic, touch of fatigue. 1st Level: bless, burning hands, cause fear, command, comprehend languages, cure light wounds, detect chaos, detect evil, detect good, detect law, endure elements, obscuring mist, protection from chaos, protection from evil, protection from good, protection from law, sleep. 2nd Level: aid, animal trance, bear’s endurance, bull’s strength, cat’s grace, cure moderate wounds, darkness, delay poison, invisibility, mirror image, resist energy, scorching ray, see invisibility, web. 3rd Level: animate dead, bestow curse, contagion, continual flame, cure serious wounds, daylight, deeper darkness, lightning bolt, neutralize poison, remove curse, remove disease, tongues. 4th Level: cure critical wounds, minor creation, polymorph, restoration, stoneskin, wall of fire. 5th Level: baleful polymorph, break enchantment, commune, heal, major creation, raise dead, true seeing, wall of stone. === |
| kjenks02-13-07, 04:46 PM | Expert: 6 skill points/level and any 10 skills as class skills? I can certainly think of uses for that! |
| Eric Anondson02-13-07, 05:29 PM | For a one-level dip, Adept has a pretty nice spell list to use with wands or scrolls. It's a mix of traditionally cleric and wizard spells.I've been wracking my brain on this because I swear I saw it somewhere, but I swear that I saw additions to the adept spell list beyond the SRD/DMG list. Not many more spells mind you, but a handful. Huh, can't figure out where it was. Maybe it was in an Eberron or FR book... |
| Britt02-13-07, 05:32 PM | Irrelevant point now :/ Ken, you'll need to change your chart back to how you had it. |
| Timlagor02-13-07, 06:25 PM | Care to tell us why? |
| ranagrande02-13-07, 06:57 PM | A new version of the LGCS is out, and NPC classes are illegal again. :weep: |
| kjenks02-13-07, 08:56 PM | Sigh. |
