We just ran into a problem where one of our players has a character who is a LN Cleric of Wee Jas - something of a necromancer type, but not the evil kind. He didn't realize that he had to inflict. We're just puzzling through what are the legal options for him:

If he wants to switch his alignment to LG, what happens/is required?
If he wants to swtich his deity to Katay(Touv god of death), what happens/is required?

Thanks

Well, since changing alignment in LG can be done through role playing alone, he can just change his alignment if he feels like it.

However, for clerics and other classes that have alignment restrictions, they still have to suffer for whatever change in alignment they adopt.

Weejas can have Lawful Good clerics, so there will be no game effects of the change.

Changing to another patron Deity requires an atonement and quest from a cleric of that Deity. Most likely this will have to happen via a special mission from your local triad.

Much better in my opinion to just stay a LN cleric for flavor reasons and pick up Spontaneous Healer. You don't need in combat spontaneous cures more often than a handful a day. Most of out of combat healing is done via lesser vigors and pearls. At mid levels, most healing is done via Insignia of Healing. At high, it's the Heal spell that is most often used for in combat healing.

Yeah - Spontaneous Healer should cover all your low level emergency curative needs. Thanks to the retrain option, it only takes you 4 TUs and a small amount of gold (at low levels anyway) to drop it in there. You can even take it back out again if you discover you don't actually need to channel cures that often.

You should also talk to the player that he may wind up with table variation about his Rebuking of undead.

There are some subtle differences that DMs sometimes are unaware of as it comes up so rarely.

Not always a special mission thats up to your triad, but definitely triad approval and at the very least a very expensive atonement to cover the XP loss to the NPC cleric and some sort of time unit loss to account for the quest.

I believe a LN Cleric of Wee Jas can simply Retrain to be a LG Cleric of Wee Jas ....you should check that before trying it though (it may already be in Britt's Questions/Answers thread)

He'll probably stay the LN Wee Jas Cleric part - the problem was more that we figured out that he was spontaneously healing at the precise time my character had gotten knocked down to 12 hp...

Since both LN and LG (and LE for that matter, for NPCs) are legal alignments for a cleric of Wee Jas, wouldn't he just, you know, change to LG and then his channeling would automagically shift to positive energy?

I mean, what happens when a cleric of a different god changes to a different, but still legal for that god's clergy, alignment? It wouldn't be any different for Wee Jas.

The Cleric description says that once you choose positive or negative energy you're stuck with it. You can change that with Retraining.

the problem for Wee Jas is that the LN ones are forced to choose Negative where any other Good-Evil-axis Neutral Cleric can choose: the WJ guy must change both at the same time where anyone else could change between +ve and -ve while they were neutral.

Couldn't a WJ cleric then start as Lawful Good, locking them into positive energy, then later switch to Lawful Neutral like all proper followers of Wee Jas should be? :P

IMO not without retraining to negative energy
