| Seed_Mode08-03-07, 12:03 AM | Hi, I'm currently trying to play a scout in the upcoming campaign, and I'm interested to try out Manyshot + Shoot on Run + Skirmish combo. Now I understand that Skirmish does not work with Manyshot, but I want to know if Manyshot will work with Shoot on Run. I read somewhere on these boards that manyshot does not work with Shoot on Run, but form what I see of the rules there's no reason why not. Shoot on Run allows you to move before and after attack when you use range attack option, range attack in combat is a standard action, and Manyshot seems to be implying that you can shoot multiple arrows in a standard range attack option. Did I miss something out something, or is there some mechanics in theses feats that does not make it work with each other. |
| Timlagor08-03-07, 02:03 AM | I haven't checked the wording but the normal problem with these things would be: "Manyshot is a standard action" Shot on the Run allows you to take a ranged attack action. "Ranged Attack" is a specific standard action that is not the same as Manyshot (a different standard action). I don't know the answer to your question but you may be able to answer it for yourself now. |

| Shandronas08-03-07, 11:30 AM | Skirmish can be used with Manyshot, but the extra damage only applies to one arrow when used with Manyshot. As Tim said, Shot on the Run and Manyshot cannot be used together. This is explained in the new FAQ that came out a few days ago. There is an article about it on the WotC homepage. EDIT: I'm bored at work so I looked it up. Per the FAQ. "No, you cannot use Shot on the Run and Manyshot together. It is true that no category of actions is called “attack actions” in the D&D game, but there is an action called attack—it’s the first action described under Standard Actions on page 139 in the Player’s Handbook." |
| bitznarf08-03-07, 11:42 AM | It is in the FAQ page 37: Is it possible to use the Shot on the Run feat in conjunction with the Manyshot feat? Some people I know insist that you must use the attack action with Shot on the Run, and they further claim that Manyshot is a standard action and not the attack action. But there isn’t any such thing as an attack action, is there? The text on actions in Chapter 8 of the Player’s Handbook (page 138) describes many kinds of actions (standard actions, move actions, fullround actions, and free actions); it even describes things that are not actions and mentions restricted activity. Nowhere, however, do the rules describe attack actions. So, what’s the correct answer? No, you cannot use Shot on the Run and Manyshot together. It is true that no category of actions is called “attack actions” in the D&D game, but there is an action called attack—it’s the first action described under Standard Actions on page 139 in the Player’s Handbook. Bah, thats what happens when I forget to hit send. Someone else beats me to it. |
| Shandronas08-03-07, 11:48 AM | In all fairness, your response included the question, which helps explain the answer. I concede. |
| Seed_Mode08-05-07, 09:57 PM | Oh.. thanks a lot for the answers. So I guess I will drop Shoot on the Run then. Are there any good builds with Scout/Ranger combination? I was also considering dropping the entire Shoot on the Run tree expect Point Blank Shot unless I want use Spring Attack for some prestrige class that mix well with Scout/Ranger build... |
| bitznarf08-06-07, 02:06 AM | Overall a scout simply makes a poor archer really. Most any other archer build will out preform it. |
| Seed_Mode08-07-07, 02:52 AM | Well truth to be told I'm not looking to be a medival machine gun exactly... I kinda fina it very one dimensional to just stand and shoo in a battle. I'm looking for stuff that I can do other than just contributing damage output to the party in a fight. |
