Rerednaw 04-26-07, 05:42 PM	Okay say I have Extend Spell, Spell Focus: Evocation and Metamagic School Focus: Evocation. Using MMSF I memorize an Extended Ice Storm at 4th level. I now use that spell to scribe a scroll of Extended Ice Storm. 4th level spell or 5th level? I suppose a similar question for MMSF Empowered Fireball. Does it have to cost as a 4th level scroll or 5th? I suppose here it would impact your base dice which is linked to caster level. Cheers.
copper_wyrmling 04-26-07, 05:48 PM	5th level. There's a FAQ response that says you can scribe a scroll of empowered fireball if you have Sudden Empower (and know Fireball), but it's costed as a L5 spell despite only taking up a L3 slot. I can't see why MMSF should operate differently.
bitznarf 04-26-07, 05:51 PM	It would be scribed as a 4th level spell for crafting costs. The metamagic cost in your first example is actually 0, as MMSF has reduced it. Thus the crafting cost would be the same as for a regular Ice Storm. Not sure what you are getting at with your 'base dice and caster level' in relation to spell level. Spell level and caster level are not linked beyond needing a minimum caster level, if you are trying to keep your costs down. Edit: *looks oddly at copper and goes to read all the rules on it again*, initial thoughts, it is 4th level because MMSF changes the cost of the metamagic feat, rather then making you not have to pay the cost.
Mommy was an Orc 04-26-07, 06:43 PM	I'd definitely use the Sudden Empower example that Copper used for intent. Not to mention, treating it as the lower value sounds like a good way to get that feat restricted or getting beaned upside the head with a huge gp fine when it gets FAQ'd and DC'd...

If so, how would you calculate the cost (since sudden metamagic feats don’t alter the level of the spell)? You can use a sudden metamagic feat in item creation; the cost to create the item would be just as if you were using the regular metamagic feat. For instance, using your Sudden Widen feat to create a scroll of widened fireball would cost as much as a scroll of a 6th-level spell (which is what a widened fireball is). The act of creating the scroll or wand would expend your daily use of Sudden Widen (since the act of creation triggers the spell, making it unavailable for casting). === I agree; your Extended Ice Storm scroll costs the same as a level 5 scroll.
Timlagor 04-26-07, 07:26 PM	Definitely a 5th level spell. It makes no difference whatsoever how you cast the spell you are scribing. The spell on the scroll is a 5th level spell and that is what determines the cost.
