Or any other way of staying in the carpet if you're knocked out, etc.

Ring of Feather Fall will break the fall, but it would be nice to stay aloft most of the time.

I suppose one could say that they simply have a rope and Use Rope skill...I just want something that is reasonable and not subject to too much table variation.

Anyone?

You don't risk falling off a flying carpet when knocked out because you aren't riding it, you are sitting/standing on it, and it stops moving the moment you stop commanding it...someone would have to bull rush you off the carpet to get you off it.

Ah .. but if the carpet turns to quickly do you keep hurtling forwards in the original direction while the carpet whizzes off in the new direction without you ? :)

I answer you question with another: Do you have to make ride checks to ride a wagon?

Well, if you want to use logic...

Magic carpets are listed as magic items, not as mounts. So, they operate as other magic items do, and you can no more knock someone off a carpet than you can punch a guy straight out of his winged boots.

Imp. Sunder, on the other hand, is a threat, as is (I suppose) Sleight of Hand.

Sunder opposes sunder, and spot opposes sleight of hand. Good luck.

You're applying physics to magic.

Stoppit.

Evidence that you don't need a saddle to stay on the carpet during combat:
