If you hit with your improved unarmed strike, then you can release the spell at the same time doing your normal melee damage plus the spell damage. If you miss, you are still holding the charge. You would have to make a normal attack vs your opponents 'full' AC. |
| amnuxoll10-11-06, 03:01 PM | The SRD is also fairly clear on this: Alternatively, you may make a normal unarmed attack (or an attack with a natural weapon) while holding a charge. In this case, you aren’t considered armed and you provoke attacks of opportunity as normal for the attack. (If your unarmed attack or natural weapon attack doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity, neither does this attack.) If the attack hits, you deal normal damage for your unarmed attack or natural weapon and the spell discharges. If the attack misses, you are still holding the charge. I have not read the passage from Complete Arcane but I imagine that it's supposed to clarify what's implied by this passage in the PHB/SRD. So, there is only one AC and one attack roll. What AC you used depends on what type of attack you are making (touch attack or normal attack). You either hit and get both effects (spell and damage) or miss and get neither. There is no in between. And given that one of my PCs is an enlightened fist, I certainly wish it weren't so! :AMN: |

| Iswald10-13-06, 10:05 AM | How about delivering it when starting a grapple or doing an unarmed trip attempt? You probably should be able to. But, even though you're using a touch attack, you would still have to spend a round casting unless you are using a quickened spell or some class ability (enlightened fist) to get a spell in more quickly. |
