Why not a comprehensive list of all items, from all books that are core access, limited access, and then restricted.

This could include materials (mithral, bronzewood),
Size.. (large weapons)
And items from other books.. Like Riders Straps (Races of Stone), animal training kits, etc.

Sure its work, but access right now is given via AR so theres significant campaign variation.

There is a comprehensive list.

It is the PHB, plus silver and cold iron from DMG, plus a small list of magic items (+2 attribute items, +1 ring/armor/shield/weapon/amulet nat armor/cloak resistance).

That's it. All else needs campaign documentation. Period. This is already in the LGCS, and this hasn't changed for a couple years (the last big change added the +2 attribute items)

It sure would be nice to have some way to get hold of basic items from other books though. It seems crazy that you can get hold of all sorts of exotic magics but can't go to Celene and pick up a Lightblade.

If there are such items, a list of items in the standard books considered inappropriate would be nice.

I agree that there should be greater access to some of the mundane items from the Complete/ Race books. I've noticed there's very few monk weapons available in the campaign, for instance. Also, some nice RP items that wouldn't overbalance the character but would be fun to see once in a while- like the elven tree tents, for example.

Let me take this a step further, though. Typically you need campaign documentation to be able to craft a specific item. What about being able to craft larger sized non-magical weapons, armor, etc. by making a higher DC Craft check? You can't tell me that a decent weaponsmith can't figure out how to make a size Large longsword unless he's found one in a dungeon somewhere. The fact that you can purchase small sized items from the PHB indicates that you "should" be able to make it work the opposite way as well, doesn't it?

I know a lot of players whose characters could really benefit from being able to craft larger sized items. And not just for the sake of powergaming. It's at least something that should be considered. To keep it balanced, increase the Craft DC so that the character must dedicate more of his precious skill points to a non-powergame ability like Craft.

Just a thought.

Considering that Celene has had its borders closed for the entire campaign, it's not unreasonable that you can't go shopping there.

Metaorgs can offer mundane items from other books to their members, so that's a possible source for your pc. I imagine that "elf-y" items are offered in High Folk, and a lot of "dwarf-y" items are available in PoU. I've seen these items show up on ARs too.

Just because an item is non-magical doesn't mean that it's easy to acquire - ask anyone who's searched the stores at Christmastime to buy the hottest new toy.

Ok Celene was a bad example but the point stands.
MetaOrgs are a highly variable thing -our region offers very little in terms of access and going out-Region gets cheesy and contributes to the problems that caused the recent crack-down.

We're not talking about Christmas Shopping here. We're talking about chracters willing to cross the world and hire someone specifically to make the tiem in question.

This could perfectly well be handled by a generic "you can get anything mundane by spending 1TU and paying 150% of the book price" so long as there aren't any items out there that need to be Restricted (I can't think of any but there are probably some oriental-type items).

EDIT: Special Missions are valid but that's an awful lot of work for something so ...mundane.

Special missions cannot give out any item access, mundane or magical.

First of all, Metaorgs should be the place for roleplaying and not for shopping. What's the point of removing access to Magical Items from them if they are only replaced with Mundane ones?? It's not solving anything.. it's just a shell game then.

Sure some items may be hard to obtain and/or discover. Others are *easy* to make, yet are just as restricted. Craftsmen at the very least should be hirable to make items for you that you desire if not make them readily available.

Heck I can't even KEEP the large sized greatclub that the last ogre pounded me with. Here's a fun pair of questions to ask someone in LG: Has you EVER seen access to a normal mundane NONmasterwork large greatclub? How many of your characters have fought an ogre (or giant) with one? If you are going to make an item that's craftable with a DC 15 check limited (when those making masterwork PhB items hit a DC 20), you need to atleast give access to it when encountered on an AR (Large Great Club: Cost 10).

While a few of the mundane items in nonPhB books may represent items that are only crafted in secret, take insane levels of craftsmanship to make, or are zealously guarded away from 'outsiders' there are hundreds that are not. And they should not be treated that way.

Take a look at all the nonPhB mundane items that are in all the books that LG considers taking material from. Tell me how many of those items could not be made by ANY craftsman with a fair number of ranks in his/her craft? How many of those craftsmen would refuse to sell their wares or be hired for say double normal wages??

Restrict items that unbalance the campaign.. whether they are mundane items, magical items, spells, feats, classes or whatever. That should be done. But if something is not broken and should be easily available then include it as easily available instead of as rare and precious.

It distorts the game reality to do otherwise.

I have access to a large greatclub. I forget if it was masterwork. I don't think it was.
