My level 2 Asherati (Bright Lands) rogue was reincarnated as a Wood Elf, but I have some questions.

1. The Asherati was stung by a small monstrous scorpion. Does that carry forward to the reincarnated form?

2. The spell reads, It retains any class abilities, feats, or skill ranks it formerly possessed. Its class, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, and hit points are unchanged. … The subject’s level (or Hit Dice) is reduced by 1.
Is it just me, or does “The subject’s level (or Hit Dice) is reduced by 1” seem to contradict “Its class, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, and hit points are unchanged”? I will guess that my character reverts to his level 1 BAB, saves, hit points, skill ranks, and class abilities; is that correct? I must assume the phrase “formerly possessed” refers to the prior level of the subject of the reincarnation spell, otherwise the spell is absurdly generous.

3. Is there a problem with the elven incarnation continuing to worship Geshtai?

4. Please confirm that the elven incarnation retains its weapon familiarity with the Eagle Claw, instead of gaining longbow and long sword proficiency. (Rapier and short bow are covered by the Rogue class.)

5. Is the elven immunity to magic sleep effects, and +2 racial saving throw bonus versus Enchantments granted to the incarnation?

6. Is the Heat Endurance feat granted to an Asherati granted to the incarnation?

7. Is the Constitution bonus to Hit Points reduced as normal?

Thank you

1. Yes.

2. I believe that you lose a level with this spell, just as you would with raise dead. Though yes, the phrasing could be a bit clearer.

3. Yes, you may continue to worship Geshtai. I forget where exactly this is stated, but the rules for LG say that you may continue to worship your deity after being reincarnated, even if it's not one that you'd be able to worship normally given your new race. (Side-note, anyone can worship the human deities, most just prefer their own pantheons)

4. I may be wrong, but I believe that you'd lose the Asherati's weapon familiarity and gain the elves'.

5. Yes, it is.

6. I'm not sure. If it's considered a bonus feat, then you'd get to keep it. But if it's considered a racial ability, then it's gone.

7. Yes, it is. On the plus side though, you do get the +2 Strength and Dex (but not the -2 int).

(Side-note, anyone can worship the human deities, most just prefer their own pantheons)Fourth bullet point on page 2 of the LG Deities document -- basically, the rule is most important for clerics/paladins/druids/favored souls who serve a specific deity. Regardless, as Geshtai is mainly a human deity, anyone of any race can worship her. Although it would be an interesting debate as to whether asherati reincarnated as non-asherati would fall to sand if they stop worshipping her...

6. I'm not sure. If it's considered a bonus feat, then you'd get to keep it. But if it's considered a racial ability, then it's gone. It's given to the asherati as a bonus feat, so you should retain it...

Thank you for the answers.

3. To quote Avagor:Although it would be an interesting debate as to whether asherati reincarnated as non-asherati would fall to sand if they stop worshipping her...
I just had him reincarnated (as a her), so you'll have to forgive me if I do not test the sands with this character.

4. I would have guessed that weapon familiarity/proficiency would be unchanged, but it leads to a nature versus nurture debate. Still if weapon familiarity and proficiency are racial feats, like Heat Endurance, that are based on upbringing and experience...

8. (new question) Does the favored class of the character change with reincarnation into a new race?

Thank you again

Yes, your favored class does change to the new one. More than one character has reincarnated themselves into massive experience penalties.

Which is possibly just what they wanted in LG.
