| solbergb02-08-07, 06:57 PM | Animals are allowed to have necklace and cloak slots Open Access, however, is limited to the size of the PC except for barding. Can we extend the "any sm/med/large" access for barding to include necklaces and cloaks? Our animal companions and bonded mounts need their amulet of health and cloak of resistance! This will also help the size-changing shapeshifters some, with the option to purchase additional equipment of their "other" size that will work in those forms. |

| Bob_the_Theurge02-08-07, 07:11 PM | wondrous items automatically re-size to fit their owners. It's in the DMG. Weapons don't. I'd offer up that with the existence of feats like Monkey Grip, it ought to be possible for players to buy a Large-sized (for example) weapon, too. |

| Paldasan02-08-07, 09:15 PM | The FAQ is still canon. If the new form has the appropriate body locations.... and (The Sage recommends that DM's err on the side of leniency when determining what the new form can and can't wear) both page 51. I would allow a horse and many other multi-legged (>2) creatures wear bracers and belts. (Ever seen those stockings that race horses wear. (and dragons wearing bracelets are not an uncommon occurence) But i'd disallow rings (but if they had claws i'd probably allow it) on hoofed creature. Let the player state his/her case and then make a determination. Cheers, Aaron Edit: Sorry, should point out that this is relevant to polymorph, not wildshape, PHB Errata addresses what happens to eq of a druid using wildshape. |
| Gwumph02-08-07, 11:15 PM | Good point not to mention saddles are kept on by a form of belt, But instead of calling it a belt riders call it a girth. |
| solbergb02-09-07, 09:38 AM | Guys, it doesn't matter what the FAQ and DMG say. The LGCS says items don't resize except for cloak/necklace during SIZE CHANGING SPELLS that don't say what happens (wildshape explicitly absorbs, via current "alternate form" eratta) It further says you have access ONLY to items of your own size in the open access list, except for barding. It FURTHER says that only cloak, necklace and barding are allowed on animal forms. Period. That's the point I'm trying to address. So please stop bringing up the more liberal access DMG and FAQ alllows. This thread is concerned about the LGCS rules. |
| Gwumph02-09-07, 10:26 AM | Solberg This is about LGCS rules. "Animals may only wear barding, neck slots, and cloak slots unless specifically stated otherwise. Your GM may rule that other magical items are appropriate for particular animals." (bold is mine) So FAQ and DMG would come into play because the LGCS specifically is worded to be open to other options. Barding neck and cloak are not the only items available for animals, they are the items that are allowed for all animals. so as part of the new LGCS draft discussion, other options should be discussed. Does the circle want to leave it open for other items or not? |
| Britt02-09-07, 01:31 PM | so as part of the new LGCS draft discussion, other options should be discussed. Does the circle want to leave it open for other items or not? Yes, to a reasonable extent, as judged by the DM. This doesn't mean other items can resize, but it does allow monkeys to wear rings and horses to wear bracers, if I were the DM. |

| sylvermyst02-10-07, 04:13 AM | This doesn't mean other items can resize, but it does allow monkeys to wear rings and horses to wear bracers, if I were the DM. But do cloaks and neck slot items resize? If not, is there a way around this, or are animals that are a different size to their master's out of luck? |
| Mortepierre02-10-07, 04:30 AM | Our animal companions and bonded mounts need their amulet of health and cloak of resistance! You mean horse-blanket of resistance? :P |
| solbergb02-10-07, 10:37 AM | But do cloaks and neck slot items resize? If not, is there a way around this, or are animals that are a different size to their master's out of luck? Yeah. That is precisely my question. The answers all seem to focus on not quite the thing I'm asking about, leaving me still unsure. |
| solbergb02-10-07, 10:38 AM | You mean horse-blanket of resistance? :P Hey, Krypto and the Super-Horse (forget its name) had Superman cloaks. If they can, so can my horse and riding dog :) |
| copper_wyrmling02-10-07, 12:14 PM | Hey, Krypto and the Super-Horse (forget its name) had Superman cloaks. If they can, so can my horse and riding dog :) Hehehe. We fought a Tiny creature with a full set of equipment in one module. After looting, all the PCs stood around staring glumly at the tiny boots of speed, the tiny cloak of resistance, the tiny headband of intellect... Azrien's rat familiar was actually kinda scary (in a cute way) for the rest of the module ;) |
| clik_ml02-11-07, 02:27 PM | I'm guessing that the language on weapon sizes was cleaned up and not intended to invoke any sweeping changes... but I think a change was made nonetheless. That brings me to an additional question regarding this passage: All items are of an appropriate size for your PC, unless explicitly stated otherwise (small for halflings, medium for dwarves, large for centaurs). Does "explicitly stated otherwise" refer to an AR which explictily grants access, or just having it explicitly stated on your character sheet and purchase documentation (purchase record on AR and on MIL)? I've never seen explicit medium access granted before as it was unnecessary since anyone could buy medium or small weapons. If this new text means that without explicit access granted via AR you can't own an inappropriately sized weapon that is medium (say, a halfling who wishes to wield a medium sized weapon), then can we expect to actually see some medium size explicit access in the future? Last follow-up question, what happens if written access is now needed in the case of small-sized characters having a medium sized weapon, and a character had a medium weapon before this language change- 1) weapon refund, 2) weapon resize, or 3) grandfathered access? Imagine how boned they would be if they took Monkey Grip and no longer had a weapon to use with it, nor any liklihood of finding access in the future. |
| clik_ml02-13-07, 04:27 PM | *bump* This is the only question I really care about since the other answers will logically follow from it. All items are of an appropriate size for your PC, unless explicitly stated otherwise (small for halflings, medium for dwarves, large for centaurs). Does "explicitly stated otherwise" refer to an AR which explictily grants access, or just having it explicitly stated on your character sheet and purchase documentation (purchase record on AR and on MIL)? |
| solbergb02-13-07, 06:02 PM | I was 100% satisfied with the LGCS wording in the end. The stuff in the appendix is size tiny to size large. That covers most uses that I cared about (cloak of resistance, amulet of health and/or wisdom and/or mighty fists) for animals and animal forms. The "on the AR" stuff seems more restrictive. But I can live with that with the basics covered. |
