| Silmon02-15-07, 07:29 PM | I like the idea of the Living Greyhawk Campaign so much that I have decided to throw myself into running LG. My timing couldnt be better with a new story Arc due to come out soon. I have downloaded the LG Rules. It mentions that the core three books are used but as I was skimming through the document I noticed feats from other sources. So, what other books do I need to have for LG? |
| myshkingfh02-15-07, 07:56 PM | Well, need? I think if you're going to buy a fourth book, get the Player's Handbook 2, but you can get by without it, even as a GM, because players are supposed to bring all the wacky books that support their characters. Here's the order I'd get them in: 1. PHB 2. DMG 3. MM 4. PHB II 5. Spell Compendium 6. Complete Warrior 7. Complete Adventurer 8. Complete Divine 9. Complete Mage 10. Complete Scoundrel 11. Complete Arcane 12-∞. The races books, stormwrack, frostburn, whatever. |
| kenobi6502-15-07, 08:32 PM | You only *need* the three core books. As a DM, if a LG module uses any rule items from other books, the module will contain the details. As a player, if you decide you want your PC to use any rules items from other books, you need to own the book(s) in question (i.e., if you want to play a Warmage, you need to own Complete Arcane (where the class appears), and Spell Compendium (where many of the class' spells appear)). |
| Silmon02-15-07, 09:14 PM | Thanks for the info. :) I currently have the core plus the PHB2 and a few other books but none of the complete <class> books or the race books. I have been eyeballing the Spell Compendium for awhile so that will probably be next on my list. I did run a couple of modules at Origins last year for LG but I was unfamiliar with the story arc. I felt like I was coming in the middle of a movie. Thanks again! |

| Japangirl02-16-07, 02:21 PM | Actually, beware of descriptions in the back of the mods. They can be incomplete. For example, Cadaver Collectors. These are constructs with a breath weapon (Reflex save or paralyzed for 1 minute), Magic Immunity (infinite SR), Spell Turning 1-3, and Improved Grab, among other construct traits. In recent mods involving them, the description in the back neglected to mention one or more of the following: 1) The paralysis from the breath weapon breaks upon any damage taken. 2) The spell turning. It just wasn't there in the description. 3) Improved Grab only works if they hit with BOTH slam attacks. The description just said Improved Grab. These are rather important things for DMs to know about. And now that I know the descriptions have been wrong on Cadaver Collectors, I always wonder what key information is being left out about other monsters that I don't know well enough to correct for. |
| DonShard02-16-07, 04:14 PM | Ok, two questions: 1. Is the Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords legal? 2. Is there anything in there worth using? |
| kenobi6502-16-07, 04:30 PM | 1. Is the Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords legal? Not to sound snarky, but if you downloaded and read the new LGCS, you could look this one up yourself. Actual answer: it's not on the main list of player-usable books, on p.26 of that document, though it's always possible that you could find a NONC rules item from it on an AR. |
