Redfist 05-10-07, 05:40 PM	Yeah yeah, it's a versatile spell that can be used for a wide variety of purposes. However, what do YOU seem to use it for most? Or if not most, was was your preceived best use of the spell?

It is debatable whether the spell's presence on the spell list of a Closed class allows it to be Limited Wish'ed for (I personally think not: it was more ambiguous when there was an NPC-Only / Restricted distinction).

solbergb 05-10-07, 09:41 PM	I suspect my sorceress might use it for teleport or dimension door, because she's a rare bird that can't cast either, and scrolls are expensive :). Not in a grapple though until she has still spell and rapid metamagic at level 15. Limited wish has a somatic component. The main thing I've seen it used for? Stone to flesh (after any break-enchantments in the party fail) "pact" spells raise dead (too few clerics leave high level slots open and we can't usually wait till tomorrow) and in one battle, our L15 wizard pulled scroll after scroll of CL15 limited wish spells...to do arc of lightnings over and over during a core special. He used up most of his boom about 1/3 of the way in, and we had the worst fight halfway through. His comment "I'm level 15. What else am I going to spend my cash on. I didn't craft the scrolls to not use them"
Maesto 05-10-07, 10:14 PM	I've often used limited wish for a heighten-spell effect. Slow has been useful, as has dismissal. Mmm... maybe I should keep track of what I use LW for... it's seen a variety of uses.
JohnduBois 05-10-07, 10:25 PM	I'm very intrigued by this topic. My Warchanter is about to start using favors to rack up scrolls of Limited Wish (carrying 2 at a time) as "panic buttons"... I still haven't decided what I want to use them for yet, but Teleport looks good...
clik_ml 05-11-07, 12:16 AM	I've got a melee bard/paladin who will sublime chord someday as a gish, and he will eventually have limited wish mostly for use of cleric buffs. Righteous Might Righteous Wrath of the Faithful (a bit redundant since he'll have +3 inspire courage and haste, but hey tis practically both in one action) Stoneskin (and just in case...) Plane Shift (assuming I have a focus) Raise Dead

However: Limited wish has some funky effects - the spell is cast as a standard action for starters, and it's not clear that you need the foci or material component (under 1000 gp) for the spell to work. I (personally) think that it does need spell foci to work, else you end up with some silly effects (leomund's hidden chest, anybody?), else limited wish will get you to any plane you want. Another fun limited wish: hallow - as a standard action (normally 24 hours).

Another fun limited wish: hallow - as a standard action (normally 24 hours). Free material comps for 1k gp or less is not a 100% solid ruling, but solid enough that I wouldn't hesitate to grant it. I take the text "When a limited wish spell duplicates a spell with a material component that costs more than 1,000 gp, you must provide that component." to strongly imply that if it is 1,000 gp or less then it does not need to be provided... otherwise there is no reason for the inclusion of that text. That's enough grounds for me to grant it to anyone who asks. I agree that spell foci are still required, since it doesn't make any mention or implication of them not being required. I was going to add hallow to my list, but since it is too expensive for my tastes to add spells to it (1k gp+ 1k gp/spell level... pricey!), I was only considering its use as a counter to unhallow or undead and I haven't come into enough mods where I'd just want to cancel out the unhallow (1 so far and it was mostly just a story effect which wasn't a problem). I'm on the fence as to whether I'd use it much.

This is the most versatile spell in LG fullstop Being possibly the only LG character to have Twinned Limited Wish(legally), i mostly used it for; Gee i wish we had that spell(get out of jail free card), so the list as i remember it: Mass Fly many times Take a -7 to your next save then Disintigrate, with a certain doll (other char had the doll and a readied action) Automatically hit on next attack, fully buffed Barb with 36 Str Power Attack etc Plane Shift, to one of four different planes i have Forks for,(stupid shadow plane should have given us one too)You emulate the spell, so you still need the Planar Fork to get there regardless how much it cost. The Acheron Ice one was free) Break Enchantment Atonement Planar Binding Mass Inflict light wounds (he he) Freedom of Movement once Mass owl's Wisdom against a mind-affecting critter Death Ward (party choice, no cleric APL 14) Extended Air Walk Any of the 6th level wiz\sor spells that aren't the three spells i chose(Grt Dispel,Disintigrate,True Seeing) But my all time favourite was the Twin Limited Wish, Emulating Reincarnates, very, very funny.
