Those feats require *spellcaster* level X, not caster level X, and are referring to actual levels in spellcasting classes. Thus they are not impacted by things like Practised Spellcaster and the Wild Magic class feature from Wild Mage. |

Those feats require *spellcaster* level X, not caster level X, and are referring to actual levels in spellcasting classes. Thus they are not impacted by things like Practised Spellcaster and the Wild Magic class feature from Wild Mage. That's not how it works. Caster level and Spellcaster level are two different things. Caster level is what effective level you cast spells at. Complete Arcane actually spells this out on page 72. Spellcaster level is how many levels in a particular class you have and doesn't actually apply to anything as nothing uses that terminology. But what they apparently meant was that when books such as Complete Arcane say 'Arcane caster level X', they mean how many levels you have in an arcane caster class. When they say 'caster level X', they mean what's your effective caster level. So you could use Practiced Spellcaster to qualify for Acolyte of the Skin(according to CustServ when I asked for clarification of the FAQ), but not Daggerspell Mage(the actual example used in the Sage Advice column, but excised from the FAQ) |

| ornsjach10-12-07, 02:04 PM | the PHB has the prerequest as "caster lvl 3rd" & "caster lvl 5th" |
| Howie2310-12-07, 04:33 PM | would the +to caster lvl from praticed spell caster count toward required caster lvl for craft feats and crafting? The feats have the prerequisite of "caster level x" (not spellcaster level x). The mechanics of Practiced Spellcaster is to increase caster level. So, Practiced Spellcaster works for both taking the feat and for those items that have caster level as a prerequisite. (edit: Heroforge identifies them as Spellcaster level x; the core books don't) The confusion comes about because the text of Practiced Spellcaster seems like it should apply only to casting spells, but the mechanics listed to get there are broader in application. That said, if an FAQ ruling came down that prohibitted Practiced Spellcaster from assisting with crafting or other non-spellcasting applications of CL, I wouldn't be surprised. For now, it works. |
