| hiddendragon02-27-06, 05:41 PM | A situation has come up at the table I play at. A cleric with the animal domain casted Animal Shapes on the party. My druid (level 13) was jealous because I will never have access to that with level capping at 16. Anyway, one of the players is a pure monk. Does he lose his monk unarmed bonus damage, armor, flurry, (magic and lawful unarmed bonus), and speed bonus? If he is in a Dire Ape form, can he use his kung fu? I'm just wondering what is the say on this, or whom do I go to ask? At this point I'm disappointed at how nerfed my druid feels, my main and only focus was wildshaping. And no, it wasn't about being powerful, I enjoyed the role-playing it out. Now I feel 2-4 levels weaker than the average APL. I'm thinking about retiring my druid and go into World of Darkness groups. Sorry for complaining, I'm sure everyone sees it enough. |

You don't lose any monk abilities for changing form, unless specifically stated, or you wear armor, unless it becomes anatomically impossible for you to use the ability (like flurry when you have been turned into a head and torso, or some such). So, in Dire Ape form, you keep all your class abilities. At this point I'm disappointed at how nerfed my druid feels, my main and only focus was wildshaping. There may be problems with Polymorph, but druids didn't need the nerf this gave. All in all, this was a bad idea. Honestly, I'm wondering if wizards is going to nerf clerics now, or leave them as the most versatile, and probably powerful, single class in the game. |

| hiddendragon02-27-06, 06:36 PM | Thanks for the quick response. I am strongly feeling though that 3.5 D&D is too focused or absorbed on rules. When I made my druid, I was aware I was the weakest one in the party at the beginning, and my desire was to play something unique and different. I didn't want to go the traditional route of having a guy who can charge and deal 180 damage in one hit to a foe and force them to do a save against massive damage if that didn't kill them. Ah well. |
