| Tahldrehlian04-29-06, 10:56 AM | I have access to a bunch of weapons in races of the Wild that are considered exotic weapons: Elven Lightblade, Elven Thinblade, Elven Courtblade, Skiprock, Warsling Am I correct in believing that the appropriate races do not treat these as martial weapons? If that is the case, I believe it's trash that Dwarves get the Waraxe and Urgosh for free, though the halflings and elves can not have their weapons. Furthermore, on the warsling... It's a d6 damage with a x4 crit modifier. It says without skiprock ammunition, it is treated as a normal sling and does the appropriate damage. Under Skiprock it says that they can be used as sling ammunition, you only need the EWP (War Sling) to use the richochet ability. Now, assuming that Halflings do not get these weapons as a martial feat, could you use the War Sling as a normal sling with Skiprock ammunition, thus doing a d6 damamge with a x4 crit mod? That wouldnt THAT bad, though richochet is nice. Inquring minds want to know. |

Neither elves nor halflings are good examples since elves gain weapon proficiencies and halflings get a bonus on thrown all thrown items. You should have picked half-orcs. ;) |

Well, before we start rants like this we should remember that Elves receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats, for free, for the longsword, rapier, longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow) as bonus feats. It may be unbalancing to give elves free martial proficiency for seven exotic weapons, beyond those four. In effect, elves do indeed get "their" weapons, in abundance. And, looking at halflings, I think they get ample racial bonues to skills beyond the bunus for using thrown/sling weapons. Don Kenneth Brown Nyrond Triad - PoC Salt Lake City, Utah |

The question is whether or not you want to take the -4 penalty. :D In this case, you'd have to spend a feat to get exotic weapon prof with either the warsling or the skiprock to use it without penalties. And, of course, it'd take two feats if you want to ricochet skiprocks with a warsling. Improved Weapon Familiarity wouldn't work since neither weapon is considered a racial weapon for that feat. |
