| gninja02-01-06, 10:24 PM | What happens to skill points and bonus feat when being reincarnated to, or from a human? Does it follow the Races of the Dragon guidelines for Dragonborn, in that they retroactively lose (or gain) the feat and skill points? |
| scon4002-02-06, 12:24 AM | That is covered in the DnD FAQ. |
| tormey02-02-06, 12:28 PM | Part of the FAQ answer is: "For ease of play, some DMs ignore this side effect, but doing so represents a clear benefit granted to humans." Do you intend to leave it up to the table DM or does the Campaign DM want to rule one way or the other on this issue? |
| scon4002-02-06, 02:44 PM | Follow the rule, ignore the sentence about some DMs. |
| copper_wyrmling02-09-06, 08:06 AM | Sorry, I'm probably missing something obvious, but I can't see any such rule in the FAQ. Do you mean the rules on the Polymorph spell chain? If so, is it an official LG ruling that the same principles apply to reincarnation, i.e. humans reincarnated as a different race retroactively lose their L1 feat and extra skill points? That could make a big difference to several reincarnated PCs that I know - what happens if the bonus feat was a prerequisite for other feats or PrCs that they possess? For example, consider a human wizard 5 / divine oracle 5 who took Skill Focus (Knowledge (Religion)) as her bonus L1 feat. Suppose the character died and was reincarnated as an elf. Would she lose her Skill Focus? If so, would she lose her Divine Oracle abilities (including five levels of wizard spellcasting), since that PrC has Skill Focus (Knowledge (Religion)) as a prerequisite? This seems like a strange outcome as the Reincarnate spell states that the subject retains their feats, skill ranks and class abilities. |
| kegdrainer02-09-06, 08:15 AM | On that same thought, why would a dwarf that got reincarnated, now get extra skill points and a feat? EDIT: I just realized if my Centaur gets reincarnated, will he still have two levels of centaur? "I am a Suel human Centaur? |
| Simpi02-09-06, 08:40 AM | EDIT: I just realized if my Centaur gets reincarnated, will he still have two levels of centaur? "I am a Suel human Centaur? Centaur cannot be reincarnated as it is a monstrous humanoid. Seeing that there is so much confusion about this spell, perhaps it would be best to restrict it from LG as currently only one class and NPCs can actually cast the spell. S.H, the guy from Naerie |
| kegdrainer02-09-06, 08:52 AM | I will have to disagree with you as that limitation is not in the spell. Constructs, elementals, outsiders, and undead creatures can’t be reincarnated per the spell. From the 3.5 SRD on the spell With this spell, you bring back a dead creature in another body, provided that its death occurred no more than one week before the casting of the spell and the subject’s soul is free and willing to return. If the subject’s soul is not willing to return, the spell does not work; therefore, a subject that wants to return receives no saving throw. Since the dead creature is returning in a new body, all physical ills and afflictions are repaired. The condition of the remains is not a factor. So long as some small portion of the creature’s body still exists, it can be reincarnated, but the portion receiving the spell must have been part of the creature’s body at the time of death. The magic of the spell creates an entirely new young adult body for the soul to inhabit from the natural elements at hand. This process takes 1 hour to complete. When the body is ready, the subject is reincarnated. A reincarnated creature recalls the majority of its former life and form. It retains any class abilities, feats, or skill ranks it formerly possessed. Its class, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, and hit points are unchanged. Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores depend partly on the new body. First eliminate the subject’s racial adjustments (since it is no longer of his previous race) and then apply the adjustments found below to its remaining ability scores. The subject’s level (or Hit Dice) is reduced by 1. If the subject was 1st level, its new Constitution score is reduced by 2. (If this reduction would put its Con at 0 or lower, it can’t be reincarnated). This level/HD loss or Constitution loss cannot be repaired by any means. It’s possible for the change in the subject’s ability scores to make it difficult for it to pursue its previous character class. If this is the case, the subject is well advised to become a multiclass character. For a humanoid creature, the new incarnation is determined using the following table. For nonhumanoid creatures, a similar table of creatures of the same type should be created. A creature that has been turned into an undead creature or killed by a death effect can’t be returned to life by this spell. Constructs, elementals, outsiders, and undead creatures can’t be reincarnated. The spell cannot bring back a creature who has died of old age. What it sounds like is that there should be a modified table for the entry in the reincarnate section. |

What it sounds like is that there should be a modified table for the entry in the reincarnate section. You should read LGCS. There is only a table for humanoid creatures and as such it can only be cast on humanoid creatures, which centaur is not. Sure, the spell says this: For a humanoid creature, the new incarnation is determined using the following table. For nonhumanoid creatures, a similar table of creatures of the same type should be created. But for campaign such as LG only viable option would be 'when reincarnated, centaur returns to game on a roll of 00% (reincarnated as previous race), all other results mean immediate removal from the campaign.' This is because LG should not incorporate any more monstrous humanoid classes into the game. My own preference however is a campaign wide rule 'Reincarnate or True Reincarnate* cannot be cast on centaur.' S.H, the guy from Naerie *Both spells need to be worded clearly in case cheese weasels try to use this as a loophole. |

I hate to say this, S.H., because I normally find your answers reasonably well thought out, but that's a really poor excuse for removing a spell. I mean, if you think that way, then we should probably restrict raise dead, as currently only one class and NPCs can cast the spell... |

Raise dead does not cause confusion on what your stats and abilities might be after you kick the bucket. Reincarnate obviously does... S.H, the guy from Naerie |

Sorry, I have been only playing LG for 6-8 months now. Centaurs have been in the world of Greyhawk since 1st edition. One of the game's NPC's is a human that got reincarnated as a Centaur. From what it sounds like reading these boards, the race was allowed but the Circle (or whomever added them) did not do their work before hand. What happens when a Centaur dies should have been included on the AR. Just my 2 cp. |

What happens when a Centaur dies should have been included on the AR. Centaurs should never have been allowed. I suspect the Circle found out they were being allowed about the same time the players did. My guess would be the Circle was going to allow Asherati, but someone decided they weren't kewl enough and said "We'll let them play centaurs". There are a number of other races which could have been allowed with less disruption. Ed |
