resin suit questions [Archive] - Wizards Community

Is there a less vague description than "protects from environmental effects"?

Is there a game rule for a character with hives?

If that is too close to the text for a mod I can change it or remove it, but I would just really like to know, Thanks.

Okay, I found references to the Resin Suit. Apparantly it's from Dungeon Magazine 118. Certain extraplanar creatures take damage from just being in the Prime Material plane. As long as they wear the suit, these creatures don't take that planar damage.

As for hives, the 'sickened' condition might be appropriate, but kinda harsh for just having itchy skin. Personally I'd write it off as just a descriptive effect with no actual game mechanic modifiers.

so what would the environmental protection do for a PC who acquired it

It specifies:

"In addition to it's armor qualities, a kaorti resin suit protects a creature on the Material Plane from the effects of the environment."

I could see someone taking the literal wording, that you would be protected from any adverse environmental effects you might find in the Prime Material, similar to the way a Necklace of Adaption protects you.

Given the context, however, that the "Prime Material environs" do damage to Kaorti, I'd say the INTENT of the text is that the suit just protects Kaorti from the special damage they take from being in the plane, and not any other type of environmental damage. Also consider that this is a non-magical armor material - it certainly shouldn't be the equal to a 9,000 gp magic item.

If we assume this, there would be no real benefit for a non-Kaorti.

You'd just be getting the rash from wearing dried Kaorti mucus. Which is what the Resin Suit is.
