I would suggest XP and GP for one of your characters at the appropriate APL (always down so a judge with a 7th level character will get rewards for APL6, not APL8), but no access to any favors or items on the AR. I am thinking about attending Weathertop, a con near Vancouver, Canada. They are a Winter Fantasy extended premier site and will be running the Core Special 6-01 The Hanging Glacier. There has been a call for judges but all of us in the area would like to play it and nobody wants to eat it. I would at least consider eating it (as I did for another core special) if I could get a little reward for my sacrifice. Right now I have absolutely no motivation to eat the module. Living Kingdoms of Kalamar has a system in place to reward judges who eat modules. So why can't Living Greyhawk have something similar? Bertman |

It will take some of the pressure to judge new mods off of the triads and authors. It can not be abused, since you can't get more rewards than playing the mod would give you in the first place. There is no down-side! |

| solbergb02-06-06, 05:32 PM | I'm not in favor of this. One of the things that makes LG different from, say, Mark of Heroes, is that every single xp and gp was earned in actual play. The one bit of continuity you have in LG is the character story. Dumping unearned xp and gold on a character is not a good thing (which is why the "play way up" gold/xp is restricted, because you literally got level 4 characters with tens of thousands of gp in equipment...with characters that were probably safer under their high level buffs than if playing at APL) If this was a smaller campaign, where GM resources were scarce, maybe I'd feel differently. But this is the largest campaign in the world, there are sufficient DM's out there. If it is core, you can get a game online, often by the author. In theory every game has an author and playtesters who can run for the first set of "seed" judges in an area..regional stuff also has your triad. Eating a mod is a very rare thing...most folks actually get to play by taking advantage of the opportunities provided by the author, playtesters etc. The main culprit is slipped deadlines before the premier and sometimes insufficient judge staffing at conventions, causing Judges to both come in cold and eat the mod (bad for everyone). I would rather encourage good behavior that eliminates the need to eat mods (get the mods done in time, have draft versions available for slotzeroes of the premier conventions if the final versions are still in editing, keep lines of communication open between author, triad, playtesters and the judge pool, etc....using judges as your playtesters of course makes things easier...) |

| JamesMaissen02-13-06, 07:41 PM | While this can be a problem, in general the LG playerbase is very strong. And by that I don't mean in numbers, but quality. People will travel to run modules for others, and people will sacrifice a play opportunity and eat a module for others. It's part of what adds to the comradery and goodwill that I've seen everywhere I've travelled. It's what has judges offer to run midnight slots for travelling players so that they can get in one more module.. the judge doesn't get anything quantifiable for it. But it's something that's been done for him when he's travelled. And that's the best thing about this behaivior: it's contageous. For example, I don't know anyone offhand who's a local judge here that hasn't at one time or another eaten a module. We've had people drive a few hours to run for others and had some drive over to us to do the same. An in game reward would sully that and invariably lead to problems.. just look at the mess metaorgs have been in that regard. Let it be a community building experience instead. -James |

If it is the extended premiering for WF, you might actually get double reward points (or at least that was the case last year). There is a mechanism called slot 0 where 1 DM runs the game in advance for the DMs. Right now I have ran the Core Special around here 2 times for the DMs for WF and the extended premiering here in the Netherlands. That way only 1 player has to eat it (though in my case I am not even allowed to play it, so nobody had to eat it). |
