The monster manual states in the combat section of riding dogs that, if trained for war, they gain the special trip attack of a wolf.

What does it take to train a riding dog for war?

Is it assumed they come that way? Or do you use handle animal for "Training for a purpose?" I'd assume the latter but "War" is not a listed purpose and the LGCS doesn't seem to have anything to say about it.

What does it take to train a riding dog for war?An answer from WotC R&D, and they are not giving us one. Maybe in the future.

The Circle is forbidden by HQ from ruling on the matter, that's why WotC needs to . . . well I'll just stop right there lest my head explode.

Trained for War is apparently an area that according to circle is a "core rules issue" the LGCS is not allowed to make pronouncements about.

There is a round about argument that basically says because riding dogs have "all the training needed for combat" they are trained for war already. However not all GMs will accept that argument.

You might also note that people who take very strong stances against it aren't very enjoyable to play with. The people who espouse strong opinions on riding dogs and animal companions not being trained for war are the same people who stop the game with a rules argument about the "closest square" every time someone tries to charge, and attempt to enforce size/square rules in noncombat situations ("nope, the elevator is only 5x5, so the characters have to ride down one at a time", etc, etc).
