Vanadium 02-17-07, 10:10 PM	Just came back from a mod, had someone tell me to pick up some magic item at the end of it. Confused me the process. It seems as if people in the area are under a collective notion that I am unsure about, as I can't find any rules supporting it (which refutes it in my book), but I don't know if this is legit. I was told that if I had a wand of a personal only spell, False Life in this case, I could cast that spell on other people (even if I was the activator). I guess it becomes a touch spell, but there seems to be nothing to defend this at all. Is this another example of my group not remembering all the rules? It wouldn't be the first time, to tell the truth.

Otherwise, a lot of melee combatants would have their cohort use a wand of true strike on them every round. Fighting those powerful outsiders with little 1st level casters aiding them with true strike, expeditous retreat, etc. constantly would be horrible...
kenobi65 02-18-07, 01:30 AM	Making a wand doesn't change any of the properties of the spell placed in the wand. Thus, a wand of a spell with a range of "Personal" continues to have a range of "Personal". Otherwise, as Adolfo notes, the wand of true strike would be about the most broken item in the game.
mustafathered 02-28-07, 10:11 AM	There's no problem with a Rogue (for example) using Use Magic Device to activate his own Wand of True Strike the round before he wants to make sure his sneak attack lands, right?

Correct. What you can't do is hand your wand of True Strike to the party's wizard, and ask him to cast it on you.

No, it follows the wand text. The character holds the wand and points it at himself, the only legal target of the spell since the target is "Personal"
