Shared Heart of Earth/Fire/Air/Water spells? [Archive] - Wizards Community

My druid recently got access to both Heart of Water and Heart of Earth from Complete Mage. They are personal only, but I could share them with my animal companion. What I was wondering is if I am sharing the spell, do I trigger the secondary effect for both of us with my own swift action, or would the animal companion need to use it's own swift action to activate it. In case of the latter, I assume it would need to be intelligent enough to actually do so, or perhaps I could push it to do so using handle animal? The spells don't really specify HOW exactly you trigger the effects, just that it takes a swift action...

I would think that you would trigger the secondary effect on both of you with the same swift action. The question is, how do you push the animal if you take the "cast a Personal spell as a touch spell on your pet" option?

I haven't read the spells but it looks like one big ETV to me. Check with the Gm at the table in advance and don't assume it will be possible for your AC to benefit from the secondary effect at all.

I think, from looking at the wording of share spell, is that the intent is that when you share it (not cast it on your animal companion, but share it) that the spell is still on yourself you're just able to spread the benefit to your companion, hence why it disappears if the animal companion moves more than 5 feet from you. So to trigger it on your animal companion you have to trigger it on yourself, and there's no way to trigger on yourself that allows the non-triggered spell to continue on the animal companion.

Well I much greatly prefer it that way over having no way to trigger it on my animal companion, since if I want to trigger it on him, I probably want the effect myself as well...

Well that's how I'd run it and I think if you just show them the specific rules about how sharing works and explain it that way most DMs will probably agree.

I'm more excited about the Boccob's Blessed book with spells as a whole I know what the DMG says but I've got the two ARs to prove it. Alter Fortune is the prize in that book don't get me wrong all the spells are great but that one can snatch victory from the jaws of death.

Holy Crap...and it has a nice little 200xp cost tied to it...so 3 times per round per apl12/14 mod, or 4 times at apl 16...gotta make sure to spam the crap out of that...save me all those damn 1's on attack rolls on my rhino's charges...

There's a limit on how much XP you can spend in the course of a module Vamroc.

As Timlagor says, it's 50xAPL.

Is there a contest that I'm not aware of to see who can be the most specific about things everyone should already know? Hehe...

I really don't understand why the Circle can't get their act together. I've already played this game without knowing the rules and I want my AR. There is an AR for it, right?

Actually, I heard it got pulled at the last minute when the author withdrew permission. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You weren't waiting on it so you could level, I hope?
