I got together with a group tonight for my first ever LG game (actually it was just character creation). The DM is new to LG as well, so we had a little confusion when going through the campaign standards.

We were most confused by the rules about material outside the PH, DMG, MM, and LGJN. It seems like even the things that are allowed for all characters (designated "core") can't be taken until 3rd level. This seems fine and dandy for most things, but does it also hold for base classes? For instance, am I only allowed to take levels in scout after taking three levels in some other base class?

Thanks for the help.

NM, we were looking in the wrong part of the campaign standards (chapter 5), when it seems to be clearly stated on page 11.

The new "base" classes (at least, the six that are that are "core" for LG) can be taken at character creation; you don't need to wait until 3rd level to take levels in Scout, for example.

P. 25 of the LGCS:

"A character may not take a feat, or spell, not found in the PH until reaching third level."

Note that classes do not suffer this restriction.
