Theoretically, wizards are the magical researchers/casters par excellence. While I understand that wotc/lg wishes to make bards the caster par excellence for sound effects and druids/rangers the primary emphasis (perhaps) for sensory effects; I don't see that removing it from the spell lists makes any sense. Wizards to cast a lot of scry and detection spells - spells like clairaudience, alarm, see invisible, scry. Logically, there is no consistency for removing these spells. Additionally, I don't see them as being a source of abuse. Some wizards also specialize in casting fog type spells. Obscuring mist, freezing fog, acid fog, cloud kill, etc. Listening lorecall and/or scent were valuable adjuncts in being able to cast and use these spells. A wizard that knew he was going to obscure the enemy with a freezing fog - why wouldn't he quicken a listening lorecall to be able to continue to locate the enemy? I think the idea to remove them from the spell lists is ill considered to bring them into the LG campaign, where already many people make them a staple. And it does impose a fairly big penalty for characters that have chose to do so, aka as to use listening lorecall requires at least 10 skill points. I would suggest ..ask.. beg? continuing to use the original source on these spells. IF balance were the question, I would suggest doing has been done on many other spells, by changing the levels, aka druid 2 wiz/sor 3. But in this particular spell I don't think its required. 2. Sphere of Ultimate destruction. Did I miss it - or did this spell really get removed from the restricted list? And just checking did ForceWhip and Chameleon get added to the limited list.. or were they oversights? Chris |

Sphere of Ultimate Destruction is a 9th level spell, so it's really a moot question, isn't it? At least to those of us not in the high-level game. Finally, Chameleon is now Camouflage, and Force Whip is now Sonic Whip. |
