Ok, so here's the deal.

A druid has Rapid Spell and Metamagic Spell Focus (Conjuration). Said Druid spontaneously converts a Cure Light Wounds spell into a Summon Nature's Ally I, then applies a Metamagic Spell Focused Rapid Spell onto said spell.

My understanding is that the process is something like this:

1 Round Spell (standard summon) -> Standard Action (Rapid spell) -> Full-Round Action (Spontaneously applying metamagic).

So in effect, the action takes both a move action and a standard action, but goes off in the same turn as it is cast, right?

Correct. You get a 5' step and the summon gets it's full action. In the subsequent round the summon acts and then your turn begins.
