I would rule (and let's make no mistake here, the best answer you will get is a personal opinion) that if you did it for tactical reasons, it is a silly, but not evil, act. If you did it just to watch your fellow adventurer suffer, then yes, it's evil.

Now here is the real question: Why would you waste 300 GP on that? Actually, why would you spend 300 GP on it at all?

It would work best at lower levels against a lot of enemies, but you don't have 300 GP to spare at lower levels.

But, as always, play as you wish.

01-04-08, 06:18 PM Would catching another PC in the area of a harmful spell be considered a harmful act? Generally yes, unless the other PC agreed to it.

You can sometimes make the argument that you had no choice in the encounter. I've also warned PCs not to move to a certain spot and if they do, bad things may happen (fireball, arc of lightning, flamestrike, cloudkill).
