The stormlord is now listed as a core calss for PCs, but iy has no listed deity replacement, making it impossible to take in LG. Any ideas of what it would be?

its in the other source rulebook thingy. it has several alternate deities you can take.

Aerdrie Faenya (CG, Elves, quarterstaff, Air/Weather/Birds/Rain/Fertility)
Hurakon (CN, Olman, spear, Floods/Fury)
Osprem (LN, Suel, trident, Ships/Sailors/Sea Travel)
Procan (CN, Oeridian, trident, Sea/Navigation)
Velnius (N (NG), Oeridian, spear, Sky/Weather)
Vogan (CG (NG), Touv, shortspear, Weather/Storms)

Unfortunately, no deities with War domain and favoured weapon javelin/trident. Your best bet would probably be
1 Cleric of Velnius Weapon Focus Spear, Endurance
2 Cleric
3 Cleric Craft Wondrous Item
4 Cleric
5 Cleric
6 Cleric Great Fortitude
7 Stormlord
etc.

Really, though, a Stormlord isn't going to have appropriate Cleric stats and will just play out like an underpowered Cleric archer. You could get similar feel with a Fighter/Barbarian/Master Thrower/Pious Templar build and be much better at dealing ranged damage.

Half-Elf
Str 16, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 8, Wis 8, Cha 15

1: Barbarian 1: Power Attack
2: Hexblade 1
3: Hexblade 2: Extra Rage
4: Fighter 1: Charisma 16: WF: Trident
5: Fighter 2: Great Fortitude
6: Outcast Champion 1: Endurance
7: Outcast Champion 2
8: Divine Crusader 1: Str 17
9: Divine Crusader 2: Quick Draw
10: Divine Crusader 3
11: Stormlord 1
12: Stormlord 2: Strength 18: Brutal Throw
13: Stormlord 3
14: Stormlord 4
15: Divine Crusader 4: Improved Critical(Trident)

So here's the synergy going on, assuming an eventual +6 to Cha item:
+6 to saves vs spells
6 Avenging Strikes per day where you add +6 to hit, +2d6 Damage
7th level spells from one domain

There's a possibility of bringing a level of Seeker of Misty Isle in there for the Travel Domain, depending on how you see Divine Crusader's language working - I wouldn't allow it and neither does CustServ, but depends on how you see regional table variation working.

You're not a cleric, but it does make Stormlord a fun PrC without being detrimental to the rest of the party. And you're a tweaked Half-Elf :) The Outcast Champion in particular makes this guy something of a monster when Power Attacking with his electrified trident two-handed.

Damn, someone needs to have a dwarven storm god that can substitute hammers for tridents. Thor anyone?

maybe switch "craft wonderous items" with "craft arms&armor" ;)

but generallly, LG does not allow really powerfull stormlords as PCs, keep in mind, that the other members of your party might not be too happy about the raging thunderstorm you conjured to buff your class abilities

the class is just way to feat consuming, but yes, i am still toying with a try for it :)

Craft Arms and Armor? As a Stormlord? As a Stormlord who gets free magic weapons?

uh I disagree with your suggestion there

Here's a simple Stormlord build that focuses on throwing with still maintaining a decent casting ability.

Human (levels without much surprise deleted)
1st Cleric 1 Endurance, Great Fortitude
3rd Cleric 3 WF: Javelin
6th Cleric 6 PBS
7th Clc6/Ftr1 Precise Shot
8th Master Thrower (Quick Draw) (Trip Shot)
9th Stormlord Rapid Shot

It's not optimal, and certainly not scary, but gives you a middle of the road Stormlord.

I started a Favoured Soul (Osprem) / Stormlord from the Bright Lands. Bit of a spacey rock-star (high Cha, low Wis) personality.

F.S. takes care of the Martial Weapon Proficiency & Weapon Focus (trident) and the saves are nice. It's still feat hungry - but it has style.

if you're throwing with a stormlord, brutal and power throw are kind of no brainers.

a stormlord is a damage dealing cleric, and sometimes a frontliner, so you want to get as much raw damage out as you can. ok, you get 1d6 lightning and later lightning burst, better get some additional elemental dice on your "handheld" weapons, you might want to have one or several quivers of shortspears or tridents (they don't get the nasty -4 as jevelins in melee do), so you can add everything nice enhancement you find on them for a reasonable price, just imagine a quiver of tridents or shortspears of returning :).

the same goes for armor, you get some lightning resistance, but as a frontliner you want to get everything possible.

both is especcially needed as your stats and feats are no way optimized for a melee build, as you need your stat points and feats for qualifiying.

The problem with Craft Arms and Armor is it doesn't follow the same rules as Craft Wondrous Item. In LG for wondrous items, you either have to meet the CL and have had access before, or be at CL +2. There is no such rule for Arms and Armor, so if you want to craft something specific you have to have gotten very lucky to see it in the bottom half of the AR. For that reason alone, CWI is far superior in an LG setting.

Favored soul works pretty well to get the proficiencies etc.

My FS is going for Stormlord but almost entirely as a flavor thing. He's not seriously expecting to do much with electrical javelins vs actually using his spells. His cleric spells are far more useful to the party than anything he can do with his enhanced javelins or tridents most of the time.

Solbergb, I, too, am setting out to build a favored soul/stormlord, and like you am looking for a water-themed "different" divine caster -- he will be favored soul first, stormlord second (full caster levels).

The basic dilemma I seem to be facing is whether to go Point Blank Shot + Precise Shot + Quickdraw or to go Power Attack + Brutal Throw + Powerful Throw (or whatever the Power Attack at range feat is called). I certainly don't have enough feats to do both, but I kind of have to decide straight away, since with the Brutal Throw build I'd be dumping Dex and building up strength, whereas with the point blank build I'd be straight-up 14 Dex 14 Strength. I'm curious what route you went with your characteristics and feats, and what you would do differently now that you've played the character and seen its weaknesses and strengths in play.

Bear in mind that any Stormlord build that doesn't include the Weather Domain may have problems fulfilling that 'struck by lightning' prereq when they want it. This is especially true if you plan on taking Stormlord at 5th or 6th level.

I had it easy, I just wanted to be a medic support with storm-god flavor (I thought it would be fun to roleplay a favored soul with an adversarial relationship to his deity - he just wants a nice quiet life where he can help people, and his deity wants him to be a force for chaos and destruction...the tension makes for both an interesting spell mix and a kind of nice change from my usually cheerful characters - he's kind of a Marvin the Android type pessimist)

Attributes - evenly spread, but dumped wisdom. I spent 6 points on str, dex, con and cha with the remaining 4 points into intelligence (then adjusted for gnome). Strength is high enough to wear armor and provide a base for divine power if I go that way, but he's never more than a secondary melee character, he's a "cork" not a "tank". His job is to identify the best damage dealer in each fight, and keep that person on his feet while forming a bottleneck. Later on, he can energize the whole party, and do medeocre damage via spells but that's not for a few more levels.

He's got two feats tied up in the prereqs to Stormlord, so until level 6 all he gets is augment healing. Level 9 empower spell (very potent with insignia of healing and later the mass XXX spells, plus all of his offensive spells are no-save Dsomething+level type spells). Level 12 maybe that races of wild feat that gives another augment-healing like effect in natural settings (Procan IS a nature god - Storms and weather). Dunno about the L15 feat. I figure by then I'll have some ideas.

He's built for good armor class and high hitpoints, he's an indestructable little cockroach that keeps the party at full strength no matter what the enemy does (and focusing on him just plays into his hands...it is easier to just heal himself and he's often the "crunchiest" party member). He's got some slow but effective damage/time spells worked into the build (eg ring of blades) in order to provide some offense when the party is lame offensively. Ring of blades AND the electrical trident/javelins combined add up to fair offense and it isn't impossible that someday he might get righteous wrath of the faithful or even divine power, but I won't know till I see how he plays in the L6-10 range.

Doing the thrown weapon archery thing with stormlord is tough, because you're down two feats already. I'd think you'd want to go cleric, to get some feats back with domain powers. You probably want brutal throw and quickdraw at minimum. A human could achieve both by level 6 in a favored soul build. Don't bother with point blank and precise. Throwing stuff is for when the enemy is separated from the party. In melee, just poke him with your lightning-trident, possibly with power attack (if you are working in powerful throw somehow)

As for struck by lightning, well, I can buy a scroll of lightning bolt or call lightning in the level 6 timeframe if it doesn't happen naturally and convince the party druid or arcane caster or UMD guy to zap me. I would likely roleplay it as Procan taking posession of my body and forcing me to do it, to initiate him into the "higher powers" by force my character would think that is silly and wouldn't normally do such a thing on his own. Sleepwalking would be especially funny, he'd wake up being zapped by a party member.... If I have spellcasting favors that I can use for an NPC Procan priest, I'd have them do it instead, most likely.

For now though, I'm just hoping it will happen in play. He's only L3. He's been very effective in APL2-4. His weakest point in his entire build is level 5, where he might be playing APL6 but without the level 6 area healing options or damage spell options...his level 4-5 stuff works much better at APL4 than APL6. OTOH, L2 scrolls are still pretty potent equalizers, and I can buy a few L3 scrolls to get me through that level.

Once he gets insignia of healing and ring of blades, he's pretty much good for the rest of his career (his options only get better as he levels, relative to the EL appropriate threats)

You bastard! My concept is an Argonaut-type that hates Procan, blames Him for the drowning of his loved ones and his years of life as a castaway, and curses the Sea God every morning, after which the chaotically-inclined Procan chuckles to himself and "gifts" the character with spells, thereby making his life even more miserable. The character carries Procan's holy symbol just to spit on it. Every time he tries to toss the symbol into the sea Procan makes sure it washes up right next to him at the most inopportune moment. Oh well, at least your character is a gnome, so they won't be identical...

you dont have to be 'struck' by lightning, you have to be 'hit; by lightning and not die.

for example: hey level 5 wizard. please lightning bolt me and dont roll very high.

easy.

Actually I want you to play that one and have us adventure together. It would totally confirm Mugwort's view of Procan. "See! It isn't just me. He IS a rat bast..."

Mine is a gnome with the attention of an Oeridean wind god. How THAT happened is something that his great great grandfather never told the family, but someone is always "blessed" by Procan's attention, lives an eventful, dangerous and short life and soon after someone else in the family wakes up with an inexplicable urge to wear chainmail and carry a trident....

Never play dice with gods. Or win bets. Or whatever he did....

Martin, there's a son of Procan who has favored weapon: spear. It's not totally relevant, because you still have to buy weapon focus, but then you'd be carrying an actual favored weapon.

If I were going with a simple weapon, I'd go spear instead of shortspear. You can still wear a buckler, and as a caster you're pretty much limited to a buckler or small shield, anyway. It has the same range as a shortspear, but it does a 1d8 damage and has a x3 critical. Mathematically, the spear is more like a martial weapon than a simple one. One could argue it's superior to the trident.

Granted, as a druid, you'd have to find access to a darkwood buckler.

I agree that druid casting and skill set meshes well with stormlord.

From a flavor prespective, there's an Olman God of the Flood that allows stormlord and would make an interesting druid/stormlord combo.
