Rerednaw 04-11-07, 10:23 AM	I read the FAQ and PHB errata but could not find this. After a creature is summoned, is it still subject to the range limitation? I.e. an 8th level caster summon a creature 45 feet (max range close = 25 feet plus 5 feet/2 levels) away; next round the distance between the caster and the creature becomes more than 45 feet. Does the creature go poof? This came up when the spell was used to get at a flying opponent. Can a normally land-bound creature be summoned in mid-air? (non-aquatic). Please cite rules references. Thanks.

In both cases, you'd be trying to summon the animal into a square that's currently occupied by another creature -- which, according to the SRD passage that Ken quoted, doesn't sound like it'd work.
chesspiece 04-11-07, 04:10 PM	I've seen different rulings for flying creatures. Some Judges treat air as a "surface capable of supporting it". Others don't. Has anyone text that clarifies this?
just_be_glad_now 04-11-07, 05:20 PM	While it is not exactly clear, one has to wonder how a genie can use its creation spell-like abilities on the plane of air (subjective directional grav) unless capable of conjuring objects "in flight" because subjective directional grav is treated as no gravity for objects, and _no surface_ can support an object against a lack of other forces.
