| The_Jester11-06-06, 04:05 PM | I have access to one-time use of the time stop spell from a mod. The text of the spell says enemies are invulnerable to my attacks and spell (except spells with durations beyond the time stop). But what about allies? Specifically, can I cast a CLW or give a time-frozen ally a few pokes with a happy stick? Can I stabilize a falled friend before they die? |

Read the spell again, it says "other creatures" and this includes your allies so you cannot use CLW to your allies. Sampo Haarlaa Naerie Triad (who was once in exactly the same situation) |
| Arvagor11-06-06, 04:48 PM | I have access to one-time use of the time stop spell from a mod.Gee, I wonder where you got that? ;) Yeah, I have it as well, with my ranger PC. It pretty much is worthless until you can do a lot of self-buffing. Worthless in the sense of, "not valuable enough to use to be worth using", as opposed to, "OMG! WTF?!? I can't coup de grace the BBEG while it's in effect?!? This S*X!!!" |
| Lomiat11-06-06, 05:34 PM | I got that favor with my tripper and used it in a mod where the combat had our party bottle-necked in a room with a clay golem on its way to greet us (with several fists to the face, I expect). As we didn't have any healing other than wands of CLW, I knew, out-of-character (and made a decent Knowlege: Arcana check to know in-character), that it would be a bad, bad idea to let anyone drop against the bugger. As soon as I had received the favor, I bought a bunch of potions for the time that I'd use the favor, and I chose that moment to down a potions of Enlarge Person, Bull's Strength, and possibly something else (didn't get many rounds on the Time Stop, unfortunately). Net effect? By the time the golem was acting again, I was able to keep it prone about 15 feet away from the rest of the party--not something I would have been able to do, otherwise. (In the meantime, my character took about 60 hps worth of damage that couldn't be healed that adventure...) |
| JJeff11-06-06, 06:02 PM | Hmm... seems a lot of people love to sacrifice themselves huh? I suggest looking into using spells that can disable an enemy that have a duration or if you're a fighter type, see if you can get items that can bring help into play (Bags of tricks, tokens) or as suggested above, increase your efficiency. Haven't used my favbour yet. Never had a need to... yet |
| _m_11-06-06, 07:42 PM | by and large, time stop is aimed to be used by someone who could actually cast it. i mean, if a fighter time stops... he gets to stand there for a few rounds, maybe drink a few potions. but if a wizard time stops, or a sorcerer, they can cast 4 delayed fireballs then blink back through the wall. spellcasters cannot fail to benefit more from a time stop than combat toons. |
| Japangirl11-07-06, 02:41 AM | I looked at it and saw the ultimate run-away button, but that's just me . . . |
| budleiser11-07-06, 07:21 AM | Everyone else is looking for ways to max damage with the one time favor... I see it as a favor to save my hide! |
| KShaver11-07-06, 09:50 AM | I looked at it and saw the ultimate run-away button, but that's just me . . . Not just you, after looking over everything that my marshall can do while time stopped this seems to be the most effective use of it. At least it will be until I can afford to pick up a few decent buff/healing potions. |
| Simpi11-07-06, 11:01 AM | Everyone else is looking for ways to max damage with the one time favor... I see it as a favor to save my hide! Well, I actually used it to bash some damage to a strong door which was barring my route of escape when lots of people were shooting me and there was nothing I could do about it. Door didn't budge quite enough so I dropped smokesticks to buy some more time :) Saved my life though Sampo Haarlaa Naerie Triad |
| The_Jester11-07-06, 11:56 AM | I was mostly just looking for clarification on the word "invulnerable", which does only apply to wounding. Main Entry: in·vul·ner·a·ble Pronunciation: (")in-'v&l-n(&-)r&-b&l, -n&r-b&l Function: adjective 1 : incapable of being wounded, injured, or harmed 2 : immune to or proof against attack So I thought I'd at least ask about healing. It does specify attacks and spells, so one still wonders about skills (heal check). As a bard it doesn't do me alot of good. I buff the party, not myself. And I don't need 1d4+1 rounds to heal myself... Although it would be handy for dropping down a few well-aimed grease spells. But I seldom have trouble doing that at the moment. |
| _m_11-07-06, 05:13 PM | its not really just that they're invulnerable. for the purposes, they are in-touchable. you kind of are existing outside the realms of normal activity. without getting into a rather pointless discussion about time itself, basically, you cant do anything with an instant tangible effect to anyone during time stop. You could throw up a mass vigor, or a bunch of buffs, or heck, even put a potion in everyones mouth. but nothing will happen until time starts moving again. |
| Reska11-07-06, 07:02 PM | For me, I used it to save a party member's life after he was grappled into a Mob (I hate that template) of Ghouls. Time stop, pulled him out, cast a Haboob (love the spell), closed the door, summoned an earth elemental to hold the door shut. Time stop ends, friend is safe, and wait for Ghoul Mob to take 100d4 damage over the next 5 minutes. A second friend used his to get out of a grapple with a Tendriculous. |
| _m_11-07-06, 07:09 PM | lol, i got SO confused by that the first time i read it. played wow too much, so for me, mob simply meant 'generic every day monster'... im like, thats the most pathetic template ever... a nothing at all template. *laugh* @ me :D |

Basically since you can't move items held by another ("You cannot move or harm items held, carried, or worn by a creature stuck in normal time"), that means you can't move the creature wearing them either (because that would require you to move the items). I've also seen an interpretation as follows, because "other creatures are invulnerable to your attacks and spells" and "you cannot target such creatures with any attack or spell", that means you cannot move other creatures (even if not wearing items), because it is essentially a grapple to move them, a form of attack. I don't think either of these interpretations is necessarily invalid, but YMMV... |
| Reska11-07-06, 07:24 PM | In my case, it was the case of a non-recoverable death..or "Well, he's paralyzed, helpless, the ghouls have dropped him on teh ground and see all of you. I'll rule that he himself is an item and not a creature right now." kind of ordeal. DM gave us an out. None of us were capable of taking on the Ghoul Mob by ourselves, or even together. While you're right that it can't be done, the DM worked on the fly to prevent what would have been a nasty event. And yes, I like being challenged...I don't like stupid templates that are just obscene. (I hate Mobs!) |
| _m_11-07-06, 07:31 PM | i think, that for simplicity, other than you, NOTHING can be moved while time is stoped. i dont think you could actually even bash a door down while time was stopped. |

Meaning, you could theoretically even pick up a magic item -- say, a wand -- that was formerly not in your possession, and activate it, as long as it wasn't in anybody else's possession at the time you picked it up. |

If the former, they go off as you activate the wand (a standard action). | _m_11-07-06, 11:39 PM | other creatures are invulnerable to your attacks so, its fine to, i dunno, cut a hole in the ground under the creature, or, disintegrate an entire mountain range, or set a forest on fire... but killing a mouse is out of the question... hmm... |

Time stop, pulled him out, cast a Haboob (love the spell), closed the door, summoned an earth elemental to hold the door shut. In one of our (now concluded) home campaigns, my wizard used Time Stop at the start of what looked to be big combats to summon as many earth elementals as she could. It often made a big difference. |

Most of these things are relatively hard to accomplish in 2-5 rounds (12-22 seconds) that time stop lasts. However, in the end it will be up to DM to be a judge on what constitutes an attack or action against other creatures, since no doubt many people will have their own interpretations of this ability and with that, their own methods of getting around its restrictions. Fortunately Time Stop is a spell which will not be seen frequently in main LG campaign since it is a level 9 spell and my belief is that most people will save it for that "must get away" situation and not as an attack option.
