Oaklock 08-11-07, 09:40 PM	p149 of the PHB says that when a tiny or smaller creature enters an opponent's square to attack in melee, it provokes an attack of opportunity from the opponent. p148 says that moving into or through an occupied square provokes attacks of opportunity. From this, it seems that any creature which threatens the square may make an attack of opportunity. Is this correct? If it is, which square is threatened, the square the tiny creature originated in, or the square it is moving to? My guess would be the square that it originates from, is this correct?
Shandronas 08-12-07, 12:35 AM	Provided the tiny creature's opponent is wielding a weapon or something that enables him/her to threaten adjacent squares, then yes, the originating square is threatened. Seeing as how you can attack creatures that are in the same square as you, I would imagine that the square the tiny creature's opponent is occupying is likewise threatened. However, the fact that the square that the tiny creature is leaving is threatened isn't what is provoking in this instance, it's the fact that the tiny creature is entering an occupying space, which is an action that provokes an attack of opportunity.
Timlagor 08-14-07, 07:33 AM	- A tiny creature (usually) only threatens its own square. - Other creatures threaten depending on their size and weaponry. Threatening is the ability to make an attack into a square. A tiny creature provokes an AoO for movement just as any creature does. Enemies threatening a square that the tiny creature leaves may take an AoO at that time. It seems that a Tiny creature entering the square of another creature further provokes an AoO from that creature when they do so (it's not clear if this is a 'movement AoO' and therefore limitted to one for total movement ..I get the impression reading it that this is a misguided reminder that movement provokes) but the enemy creature must threaten the square that the tiny creature is entering its square from in order to take advantage of this provocation.

This is why grapple attempts made by those without Improved Grapple provoke AoOs. You could rule that it provokes because of moving from one threatened square to another, but it would still provoke if you made a 5-foot step, which normally does not. I've always played/judged it as an action that provokes separately from movement.
