When your character gets killed and raised does your xp get reset to the bottom?

If your character was at 9,999 xp and dies does being raised set his xp total to 3000?

I've never bothered bringing a toon back before (never worth it, dead is dead) so I'm wondering.

Please don't call them toons.

When you die and come back your xp is set to the halfway point between your new lower level and the next level.

Your experience is set to halfway between your new level (the one you drop down to) and the level you were before.

As a for instance, my 8th level sorcerer just bit it in part five of Red Hand last Tuesday - a truly unpleasant sort of moment - , and I'm going to have to use a favor to get a raise.

7th level is at 21,000 xp.
8th is at 28,000 xp.

It takes 7000 experience to go from level 7 to level 8, so I'll have half of that needed experience, 3,500. My experience total post-raise will be 24,500.

Considering that LG is now DG, which I consider a dark comedy...I think toon perfectly fits. :)

I tried to find the rules on setting xp, it's not the SRD under Raise Dead or in the LGCS. Is this a PHB thing? I can check it when I get my hands on my book later...

Cheers and thanks.

The Raising the Dead section of the Living Greyhawk Campaign Sourcebook (page 13) states that if you cannot afford to pay for a raise dead , "you may pay all the GP you have and spend time working the rest off." This would seem to suggest that no matter how poor a dead character is, he can be raised. The next sentence states "You must spend 5 TUs and a minimum of 2,500 GP for raise dead...". Is the 2,500 GP necessary or is all of the character's gold sufficient to be raised?

You said it yourself. That 2500 gp is a minimum. If you don't have the gold, you have to sell equipment, get your teammates to donate, use "Charity of Friends", or remain dead.

What if you have a favor that halves the cost of a raise dead??

you pay 5 TU and the cost is 2500, then can you use the favor and half it too 1250gp ?

I might allow that but you certainly shouldn't count on being allowed ..though most people don't plan to die anyway ;)

Reincarnate take the risk if your lucky you might end up as something that helps your class. If you go from Human to Dwarf and your a Barbarian good for you. Because jumping from a sixteen to an eighteen con at no cost is huge. It also means when you rage it becomes a freakin twentytwo to con.

At the risk of being told I've missed the point and/or what I'm saying is irrelevant... :\

Reincarnate is an inexpensive option, but it is not universally available like raise dead is. Since it doesn't appear on the LGCS list, it isn't available in core mods or in regional mods for regions that follow the LGCS list. In such cases, it requires campaign documentation, a druid in the party of sufficient level, or a druid that appears in the mod with the spell indicated on his spell list.

Let me reassure you that what you say is very relevant. =)

I would've been happy to try to Reincarnate my Barbarian that died at 2nd level...if one was available.

Why are we not able to call them toon if we want. It is known and accepted synonym for other words such as player character, and or the different versions of the character class name, such as fifth level ranger, 2nd level cleric. I do not think simply telling someone not to use an accepted and popular label should be a viable option. You should give a reason for asking someone not to call it a toon, if you even have a valid reason for it which I do not see.

I'd hesitate to call it an "accepted and popular label"...I know I've never heard it used before. Not that I'll try and stop you from referring to your characters however you damne well please...

Toon is military slang for platoon.

A platoon is a military unit, typically composed of two to four sections or squads and containing about 30 to 50 soldiers.

Your PC is singular.

Toon is also used as an abbreviation for avatar, as in a computer representation.

Your PC is not an internet representation of you.

So while no one can stop you from using Toon as slang for PC, it doesn't really make any sense.

Well, technically, it's an abbreviation for cartoon as in the toons of Toontown in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096438/). Early computer game avatars were cartoon-like and some (by no means all) gamers picked up on that as a reference.

Other than that small nit-pick, I'm in 100% agreement with ya. And personally, with todays near photo-realistic game art, I find the name toon vaguely insulting to the artists. Well, unless you're playing Toontown Online (http://play.toontown.com/about.php). Or maybe WoW.

I don't like "toon" either. "We don't like it" seems a good enough reason to me :P
