Could someone clarify for me what the TU cost for playing a regional adventure from my meta region that isn't my home region. i.e. I will hopefully being going to Holland for some gaming (Suundi) which is in my metaregion, will the Suundi regionals cost me 1 TU since a metaregional set in Suundi will only cost me 1. The Onnwal region is my home region and we are both part of the Splintered Suns metaregion.

According to the LGCS 597, "Regional and metaregional adventures cost one TU per round for in-region characters and two TUs per round for out-of-region characters."

So if your character's home region is Onwall, he'll pay 1 TU for an Onwall regional adventure and 1 TU for a Splintered Suns metaregional. Although Sunndi is in his metaregion, it is not his home region, so he'll pay 2 TUs per round, just as he would for any adventure that is not set in his home region.

I thought it might be that, it just doesnt make sense though, 1TU to go to Suundi on a metaregional but 2 to go there on a regional :(

makes about as much sense as the 2 TU core mods that occur over a day or two...

it's just the way things are.

It may not make a lot of sense, but at least it's simple. If you start trying to think through distances, you might end up with out-of-the-metaregion mods costing 3 TU per round or some metaregionals costing 2 TUs or widely varying costs for mods depending on your home region.

There are some other aspects of LG that make even less sense in character. So, just be grateful that you're gonna get a chance to experience another region. ;)

Yup...keep in mind it's abstract, which is why you can get from your home region, to Greyhawk, to the Land of Black Ice, back to Greyhawk, and back to your home region, all in 2 TU. ;)

And, thus, wasted on long distances. ;) Too bad the ranger and elf archer in your party are insisting on chasing those orcs who kidnapped the two halflings. :D

I thought it might be that, it just doesnt make sense though, 1TU to go to Suundi on a metaregional but 2 to go there on a regional :(That's not what zigspatty was saying... The LGCS says (on page 7), "Metaregional adventures for your character's home region usually cost 1 TU, or 2 TUs for metaregionals that don't contain the home region."

Using my main PCs as an example, he lives in Veluna. Veluna is part of the VTF (Velverdyva-Tuflk-Fals) metaregion. Barring TU discounts/favors/etc., if my PC plays in a:
... regional mod set in Veluna, he pays 1 TU
... VTF metaregional mod set in Veluna, he pays 1 TU
... core mod set in Veluna, he pays 2 TU
... VTF metaregional mod set in any place other than Veluna (e.g., Verbobonc), he pays 2 TU
... regional mod set in Verbobonc, he pays 2 TU

It's not that difficult -- if you are playing in a regional or metaregional mod that is set in your PC's home region, it'll cost you 1 TU, otherwise it costs 2 TUs.

No, that's not quite right.

All VTF metaregionals cost you 1TU, no matter whether they are set in your region, in a different region, or in a non-triad controlled area of your region (my metaregion is the Splintered Suns, which contains the United Kingdom of Ahlissa. Only two small border regions of Ahlissa are triad-controlled (Innspa and Naerie) but plenty of our metaregionals take place in the main body of Ahlissa. Which is nice, as it's such a pleasant place!

It's only if you play in a metaregion which is not your character's home metaregion. So if I were to play a VTF module it would cost 2 TUs, and if you were to play a Splintered Suns module it would cost 2 TUs.

No, that's not quite right.I respectfully disagree. Based on the LGCS quote I provided earlier, if a metaregional for my meta-region never touches my PC's home region, then I must pay out-of-region costs, i.e., 2 TUs. Many recent meta-regionals for the VTF has been set in Tusmit, Ket, and Ekbir, and there is no reason why a PC from Veluna should be getting a discount in those regions, even if it is a meta-regional mod. If the adventure started or ended in Veluna (or passed through, for that matter), then I would eligible for the discount, but not otherwise.

That's how I see it, that's how I interpret the LGCS, and that's how I've always played. Feel free, of course, to disagree, but I'll happily post the question in Britt's LG Questions & Answers thread...

Wow, that is so ambiguous. We've never considered any metaregional adventure to cost 2TUs for characters whose home region is part of the metaregion. As evidence for this, all TSS/ESA metaregionals have the TU cost printed as 1 on the AR. This includes the (retiring today) TSS5-03 The Medigian Job which is set in the Marchland of Medigia and so by your interpretation no character would be able to play it for 1TU as Medegia isn't in any region at all.

My assumption has always been that any regional/metaregional that you can play where you live (if your character's home region corresponds with your geographical location) costs 1TU. If you have to travel, or play a fiesta slot or border-con, then you play the extra TU per round. I'm glad you spotted it though - as it's a significant variation (up to 8TUs a year in certain circumstances - there certainly haven't been any metaregionals set in Onnwal since I started playing at the end of Year 3) and it'll be good to bring it to Britt's attention.

This is all per round, so a two-round would be double.

Regionals of your home region cost 1 TU.
Metaregionals of (the metaregion that contains your region) cost 1 TU.
Regionals of any region other than your home region cost 2 TUs.
Metaregionals of any metaregion other than the one that contains your region cost 2 TUs.
Cores cost 2 TUs.

It has been answered. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=759998&page=3

My interpretation is based strictly on what they LGCS says: "Metaregional adventures for your character's home region usually cost 1 TU, or 2 TUs for metaregionals that don't contain the home region." If an adventure doesn't go anywhere near my region, then there is absolutely no reason why I should get a discount -- and IMO, the LGCS justifies that assessment.

I saw Britt's post, and I respectfully disagree with it -- all that means is I will continue to pay 2 TUs for any out-of-region meta-regionals I play, and you all can pay 1 TU if you like -- I won't stop you....

You are, of course, free to do whatever you like Arvagor. But Britt is a Circle member, so his is the LG legal ruling. There is no ambiguity on the rules as clarified, however nothing stops you from paying more TUs than is required as far as I know.

He can charge himself extra TUs all he wants :)
