| Daverius05-20-07, 04:50 AM | Hey everyone: Lets say I have a level 2 ranger with a great axe and spiked armor...or even a spiked gauntlet if you can't apply armor spikes to light armor. My question is this, It says in the FAQ's that you can use spiked armor (or gauntlet) as an off hand attack in conjunction with a two handed weapon. Do you still apply 1.5 times str when swinging the two handed weapon as your primary and 1/2 your str score to your secondary...or do you use your str score and 1/2 your str score on your off hand weapon? For example: Ranger with a strength of 18. Swings a great axe and punches with a spiked gauntlet on a full attack. Would the damage look like this: great axe 1d12+6, and spiked gauntlet 1d4+2 Or Great axe: 1d12+4, and spiked gauntlet 1d4+2 Thanks in advance. |

However: It says in the FAQ's that you can use spiked armor (or gauntlet) as an off hand attack in conjunction with a two handed weapon. No, it doesn't say you can used spiked gauntlets. The only thing the FAQ mentions is using armor spikes as an off-hand attack. (FAQ 4.20.97 p. 43) Also, they're a light weapon in the offhand, so they wouldn't gain any benefit from power attack (though if you do power attack, you would take the penalty on the armor spike attack)... |
| Southernskies05-20-07, 07:54 AM | Greataxe = 2 hands to use Spiked Gauntlet = 1 hand to use Armor spikes or unarmed strike = no specified part of the body required. Thus Greataxe + Spiked Gauntlet = no to TWF, but Greataxe + armour spikes = yes to TWF. Of course the FAQ long ago drifted away from the PHB Glossary which states: off hand: A characters weaker or less dexterous hand (usually the left). An attack made with the off hand incurs a -4 penalty on the attack roll. In addition, only one-half of a characters Strength bonus may be added to damage dealt with a weapon held in the off hand. |

What makes you think you can't add aromr spikes to light armor? I didn't find anything in the SRD saying you can't, so I added some to my Studded Leather and Masterwork Chain Shirt that I bought for my chain fighter. If you have a FAQ, or ruling from somewhere, I'd appreciate it if you'd post a link. |

If you can post armor spikes on light armor...great. |
