Upgrading Light Fortification [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-20-07, 05:48 PM I just received access form a favor to Moderate Fort on a Suit of Armor only. At present I have Light fort on the armor. So can I "upgrade" my Light for to Mod fort? If so what would the cost be? +2 or a +3 upgrade cost. I myself think that it would be +2 but I am unsure if I could even do this sort of "upgrade." Thanks!

05-20-07, 06:23 PM It's the +2 bonus cost, since you are upgrading from "fortification, light" (a +1 equivalent) to "fortification, moderate" (a +3 equivalent), thus making the difference between the two a +2 equivalent. It's just like going from a +1 to a +3 in enhancement bonus, you only pay for the +2.

Unless there's something with the favor that I'm not catching (like it can only be on new armor or something goofball like that), you should be fine.

05-21-07, 08:10 AM Don't forget that the cost of a +2 upgrade depends on the existing enhancement on the armour.

If it's 'just' Armor (whatever kind) +1 of light fort now, and you are 'upgrading' it to Armor +1 of medium fort, the cost would be the difference between a '+2' (4k) item and a '+4' item (16k)...or 12k to upgrade

But if you are going from Armor +3 of Light Fort to Armor +3 of Medium fort it would be going from a +4 item (16k) to a +6 item (36k)..or 20k to upgrade...quite a difference.

I have a Mithril Chainshirt +2 w/light fort (so total of +3) and upgrading it to mod fort (additional +2 for a total of +5) will cost me 16,000gp.

Mainly I was concerned about if it is possible to do that "upgrade."
