Does an everburning torch count? The base spell of an everburning torch (continual flame) creates a flame that is the equivalent of a torch, but without heat or need for oxygen. I'm very interested in the answer, as I'm designing a cohort and it will impact the direction I go. |

I doubt this would come up in play unless you specifically make it do so. Worse case scenerio you get an unflexible judge and light a torch or a random peice of wood you are sure to be able to find on most adventures. |

Don't be so sure... :evillaugh In the Veluna region (of all places!) we have enough Vatun worshippers that a contingent of them have formed an adventuring company. Simply because they are so out of place, most every judge in my area knows at least 2 or 3 of the players/PCs, and know all about Vatun... The more proper way to actually answer your question is to determine what is the purpose of the torch? Is it to symbolically prvide heat in an attempt to melt Vatun's prison? If so, then an everburning torch may not be sufficient, as neither it, nor the continual flame spell that powers it, provides any heat. |
| Mortepierre02-16-06, 05:07 AM | Funny, I met a guy recently at a convention who was playing a cleric from Vatun. When I asked him the same question, he told me he had taken the Craft (Alchemy) skill just for that and added "tindertwigs are Vatun's best friend" :D |

I would agree (despite my wishes to the contrary), but it would be nice to have an official response. It would be most unfortunate to be caught hoping the issue would not come up. BTW, as a Veluna native myself I am pretty sure it would come up. Also, neighboring Verbobonc (current home to the PC/prospective cohort) has an NPC Vatun cleric, so it would likely come up there also. Of course this was all easier in 2e when you would be limited to 1st-2nd level spells without the flame. |
