Unless I am mistaken, there are rules in the Complete Warrior about substituting one racial weapon for another for purposes of Weapon familiarity. In the past this has not mattere because you needed special acces to get the weapons from, for instance, Races of Stone and it wasnt worth worrying about. Point blank, are we able to substitue as prescribed by the complete warrior or our we bound by the PHB's default weapons.

I am going to say NO. But I am no one official. You have access to purchase them and can at 1st level now take the Improved Weapon Familiarity feat to gain access to use them.

Not without special access to the rules item.

We need special access to a core rules item. What the heck thatsstupid I dont want to waste a feat because i want to use a weapon that, in any other game, i would be allowed to use without blowng a feat on exotic weapon proficency or Improved weapon familiarity. I mean i don t think that being allowed t oswap which weapons are the ones you are racially famliar with breaks the game, especially considering only gnomes and dwarves have it.

Doesn't this fall into the category of an optional rule? i.e., LG doesn't use it?

Thats what i thought but judging by the text of the CW, it makes it sound as though if you do not use that rule, gnomes and Dwarves are martially proficent with ALL exotic weapons keyed to thier race. I am judgng by the text on page 154 of the CW.

The text that you refer to itself implies its optional when it says "consider limiting the number of exotic weapons ......."

This is clearly optional and will not happen in LG

well then whoopy i get access to all racial weapons that way because it implies that without that rule , that thats how it works.

All those meta-orgs that offered access to those racial weapons might just swap out that access for the proficiency if they're allowed. Regions usually have a dwarf or elf meta-org, and it would make sense to offer it this way.

i suppose, it jsut seems like a waste though because , if i am going ot make a build around having a specific weapon , I dont want to not have it at first level you know what I mean. That does seem to make sense though. I just think a rules declaration needs to be made regarding it.

Why clarify whats plainly stated on Page 3 of the LGCS 597 Draft Document

"LG uses the D&D core rules. If this document does not
discuss a rule or does not provide the details for a rule,
consult the core rulebooks (PH, DMG, and MM) for more
information. LG does not use variant rules unless
specifically stated otherwise; sidebars are considered variant
rules. If a rule in this document and the core rulebooks
conflict, the rule in this document takes precedence. See
Chapter Four for more details on the rulebooks used in LG.
The Circle and Triads do not make campaign rulings on the
core rules nor alter the core rules unless the situation has
special consequences in a Living campaign."

You can have it at 1st level. Take the Exotic Weapon Feat for it or the Improved Weapon Familiarity Feat. And there you have access to it.

My Dwarf was/is going to have to wait til 3rd level to get access to the weapon he will use. With the new Retrain options at 3rd I will retrain my 1st level feat to the Improved Weapon Familiarity and off I go. Still had to play 3 levels without using it but oh well. Such is life before LGCS CY597
