Just wondering what you can get out of special missions.

I know feats and prestige classes, and possibly duskblade access, is there anything else? Can i go on a mission to learn ur flan? Special cohorts? Item access? Can I do a group mission for teamwork benefits access?

Any help would be apreciated.

The only thing I've seen mentioned in the LG rulebook, is getting a special mission for escapting other dimentions and returning to the prime material plane should you get stuck elsewhere.

But then, I've warned my local orginization head, that I'll request a special mission to retrieve my characters main weapon if he looses it for some reason.

An element that I considered asking a SM for was circumventing metaorg requirements, such as alignment restrictions, or MOs that excluse each other.
Also possible is gaining a title or status. I know one SM that led to a person becoming the leader of a group of knights.

Special Missions can definitely grant status. They cannot grant magic item access.

I am also aware of a special mission where a character became a leader of a group of knights. However, that character later became an NPC - so the 'honor' of such a mission is subjective to the player.

Also keep in mind that what you can and cannot get access to in a region via special mission may depend on what your Triad is willing to hand out, either for flavor reasons or for balance reasons.

I recommend asking your Triad about their specific guidelines and thoughts.

I'm thinking I'm probably going to have to request one to get access to Temple Raider, as LGCS says contact your local triad, but they haven't responded yet >_>

Sunndi once ran a Special Mission for Temple Raider access.
I think it is relatively easy to convert (3.0 issues asside).

Read about halfway down the page for Link: The Doctor's Take on Special Missions (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=837011).

I have heard of special missions to get access to npc spellcasting that involve XP loss including atoning to new deities and removal of curses and such like. There seems no reason why a special mission could not also remove a disfavor.

I have heard discussions about requesting special missions to allow a minor rebuild but I have never heard of any such thing being ever approved.

In Keoland you can request special missions for access to two "limited" spells, among other things.

In Perrenland there are Special Missions for rare PrCs and feats like Church Inquisitor, Snowflake Wardance feat, etc.

Do these special missions actually happen? I have played with a lot of players in 6 or 7 different states and I have only ever met one person who said they had been on a special mission.

Everyone here who has actually ever been on a special mission chime in.

I participated in one that gained access to Temple Raider of Olidamarra for another character, in year 3 IIRC.

I had a special Mission:

BDKSM6-01: Mother of My Child

-Took my infant son back to meet his mother in the fey lands...

I got the boy (Certed) on GEO4-03: Grace as Pure as Snow ...

My special mission was tons of fun...

I got together a party.. and we decided to do the mission for pure RP reasons... no access was requested.

-however: we were awarded access to: 1 Feat (Faerie Myseries Initiate), 3 spells (spalling hand, buzzing bee, slide) , Special Cohort (Satyr with pipes)

I know of several other special mission here in the BK.. which I did not personally participate in...

1 to give a pet demon to the local red dragon.. which earned that PC access to Red Dragon Disciple.

1 to create a memorial to a Deceased PC dwarf.. who went down fighting with honor.. (That led to the PCs finding a derro stronghold.. which was "cleaned" with an interactive... and is not inhabited by a PC dwarven metaorg.)

Right now.. I am trying to get together a "all druid" party for a special mission to "find new wildshape forms"...

Yes! Last year I requested a SM to have an Elven Hound animal companion for my elf ranger. This was pure flavor for my character, as my typical riding dog animal companion is a better fighter. It took a while for everything to come together and when it did, the SM ended up being a one-on-one and was a blast. After I completed the mission I learned that some of the troubles were the flavor - there just aren't that many elves in Furyondy and an elven hound is extremly rare.

With all the changes in the new LGCS, the Elven Ranger Substitution Levels are now NONC. Veluna has made them open access for elves from that contry. I may start a new ranger and try that road for the other cool abilities that an elven ranger has.

In two weeks, I will be playing one with my cleric. He's looking to get access to the Contemplative PrC. It should be a blast; he's going for Contemplative of Lendor (Suel god of Time, Tedium, and Patience). I get the giggles just imagining what the special mission will look like (DM: "You sit absolutely still in a meditation chamber for 4 hours.....the first minute goes by....the second minute goes by....the third minute...." :D)

I have also heard of one other local player from my region who received a special mission. He had a dwarf PC who had dishonoured his clan, and out of shame was barred from using his family name ever again. The special mission was to allow him to reclaim his name.

Don't forget bagels! Lendor's the god of those too!

I've been on 2 (1 for me, 1 as an assist for a friend). One was to get access to Church Inquisitor of Moradin. One was to help a friend qualify to be a "Knight of the Realm" for Nyrond.

Great, now I have an image in my head of the leader of the Suel pantheon being an old, balding Jewish man running a bagel store. :rolleye2: :D

I've never played one, but I ran one for a group of people a few weeks ago.

I had one in year 2 to let my 8th level cleric of Boccob meet his god. It's still one of the best play opportunities I've done. Met Zagyg along the way. Realized that Boccob truly does not care about the mundane affair of mortals and switched to Zagyg as his primary patron (though he still pays homage to Boccob). The character is now retired at 18th level. He was at one point the highest level PC cleric in the Pale. CG cleric of Zagyg in the LN Theocracy. It was interesting. He got access to contemplative of Zagyg and Boccob.

4 years later I found myself running a special mission for a bunch of CN halflings that claim to worship my previous character as their god. For their trouble, they got access to Dire Chickens and a few spells.
