In LG, what constitutes a "lawful good church" for purposes of the Church Inquisitor PrC? Is it a church with a lawful good deity, or a church that allows lawful good clerics (which would include NG or LN deities)?

Pragmatic answer: It's whatever an AR or Metaorg says it is.

One or the other is necessary per the LGCS. If you can't find a metaorg that says the church you're looking for is Lawful Good, then you'll need to find it on an AR.

see the Living Greyhawk Deities v.2.0 document page 2:

if two alignements are listed for a deity, the first one is the deity's alignment, and the second one (the one in parentheses) is the most common variant alignment of the diety's worshippers.

as the most common alignment of the followers will normally constitute the overall alignment of a given church, you need a deity that is either LG and/or has a majority of LG followers - so no, lawful stubborn does not count, sorry for the pholtians, you are out :D

unless of course the triad of the pale does count them in ;) but i am unable to find any MO specifics on the pale triad's website on a quick glance, maybe it is hidden somewhere ;).

yes, i found some info:

(from http://www.theocracyofthepale.com/background/pale_regional_themes.html)
Church and Government
The religion of Pholtus rules the Theocracy of the Pale. Known in the Pale as the Church of the One True Path, the church controls or at least monitors nearly every aspect of life in the nation. Oeridians run the church and therefore run the Pale.

Although Pholtus is a lawful good deity, the Pale overall stresses his lawful neutral aspect. Most Palites are intolerant of those who do not follow the One True Path, and they believe in separating themselves from the rest of (non-Pholtan) Oerth. Citizens generally keep a close eye on deviants, foreigners, and wielders of arcane magic (see below for more on this point). They are quick to inform the Church Militant about the indiscretions of such people. Outsiders call this viewpoint Conservative, but it is essentially mainstream for the Pale.

Perhaps this would refer to either the deities alignment or the main alignment of worshipers - both are listed in the deities document.

Clerics by default are part of a church - technically...

E.g: Moradin, Pholtus, Heironeous.

There may be some lawful good Pelorites, but the church isn't necessarily lawful good. I would ask Triad.

However, it doesn't really matter as:

From LGCS:
Church Inquisitor: This class requires campaign
documentation, such as an AR entry or metaorg.

SO best bet is to go LG or LN of a Deity of your region and if there is access, it will tell you.

As said earlier, this depends on the region. However, in Furyondy, this designation applies to churches whose deities are Lawful Good (e.g. Heironeous, but not Pelor).

I'm trying to figure out where LG falls on the distinction of "This is a lawful good church because the deity is lawful good" vs. "This is a lawful good church because a significant portion of the clergy are lawful good (LN or NG deity)." It looks like there's no unified answer.

And my region, Nyrond, has NO meta-org access to the class, regardless of what church you're in. (I just searched the meta-org document last night.)

And metaorg access is exactly what you need, barring a lucky AR.

If Nyrond doesn't offer the class, they don't offer the class...

Nyrond Triad has indicated willingness to do SM for the class, if of an appropriate deity. Heironeous comes to mind, I would think. St. Cuthbert is a definite "no" for canon reasons.

I like cuthbert clerics and paladins, all "smite thee" and "thou shalt be smoten" and "would you like some smitatious wrath with that?"

The issue is that, by canon (The Marklands), Cuthbert is not well liked in Nyrond. A special mission to generate an Inquisitor of a religion that is not significant within the region doesn't make sense from a feeling standpoing.

Oh I am not arguing that, I am just saying, that well role played cuthbert paladins or clerics are simultaneously annoying and fun to play with!

Thats all lol.

Just like Pholtans of the One True Path, then? ;)

There's no hard and fast rule, so it's whatever you can get on an AR.

I got access to Church Inquisitor via an AR through the Knights of the Watch, myself. And they're not even a church.

My Inquisitor is a Pholtan, though. He's considered a hardass about the law even by Watcher standards.

:D
