What counts as documentation for non-DMG item creation? [Archive] - Wizards Community

With regards to crafting wondrous items, the LGCS states that characters can create items from tables 7-27, 28, and 29. (pg. 54)

At the beginning of the Magic Item Creation chapter, the LGCS states that "Campaign documentation may provide an item creator with the opportunity to create items from other sources." (pg. 54)

My question is, what counts as necessary documentation? Do you need a favor that specifically states that you are able to create a non-DMG item, or does having access to purchase a non-DMG item satisfy the requirement?

Thanks.

its basically all in the LGCS but spread out a bit

If you have any access on an AR to buy an item you basically can create it or a similar item. Hence if your AR shows access to a flaming short sword you can create a flaming greatsword.

In terms of named wondrous items if you can buy it on an AR you can create it.

one important bit is page 46 starting with "casters with access"

LGCS 4.2, pg 55.

Anything you could purchase with a frequency of Core, Metaregional, Regional, or Adventure is a valid source for item creation.

Hope this helps.

The item in question also has to be listed on the bottom as something that you can purchase and not simply be listed on top in the favors section.

and the AR should have the actual recipe for crafting it (caster level, spells, additional info).

This only needs to happen with items that are not listed in any other book, like Hoidelly's Amazing Boots from Crystal Caverns of the Cairn Hills. For other items, the sourcebook description of the item contains the prerequisites for crafting it. Since you need the book for the item anyways, the crafting prereqs don't need to be reprinted.
