just clarifying a couple of things:

- the two free spells for gaining a wizard level do NOT apply if you gain a caster level from a PrC ???

- PHB spells can be added by purchasing the appropriate DMG scrolls (providing they cost less than 750 gp)and making a spellcraft roll in game and paying the gp TU costs to write them up ??

- once you reach level 3 you can use your "free spells" to add Spell Compendium core spells as listed in the LGCS to your spellbook without AR access ... but any additional SpC core spells must be obtained from AR access to scrolls or a spell book ?

1) this is unclear. In 3.0 it was ambiguous, then made clear by the FAQ that you do get them. In the 3.5 rulebooks it is ambiguous again. Some people believe (as there was a change of wording) that this was intended to reverse the FAQ ruling. Others believe that the 3.0 FAQ ruling was intended to carry on into 3.5 without the need for an explicit statement. I personally asked Wizards customer service and they replied stating that you do get the spells but that's not an authoritative source of rules for LG. It's a difficult one to say 'expect table variation' on, particularly as it means that the 'trickle-down' effect of copying spells from other wizards' spellbooks is significantly impacted if they themselves don't get the free spells when they take PrC levels. I believe that you do get them, and (if my wizard ever gets to play enough to take a PrC) will play as if you do. If a DM disagrees I'd probably appeal it, and then ask the DM to unravel the mess that it would cause. I'll note the source of my spells though, so at least those could be removed easily if a DM so desired. How you'd unravel the chain of getting spells from other spellbooks I don't really know.

2) I believe that is correct, yes. I'm not convinced there's a TU cost, but I'd have to check to be sure.

3) You can copy any Core spell from a spellbook available during a module (captured one, even one not on the AR, or from a fellow wizard) as per the rules in the LGCS. Whether it's a PH spell or from the SpC, Races of Destiny or anywhere else, so long as it's core, you can copy it (making the spellcraft check.) If it's limited, however, you can only get access to it if you personally have campaign documentation saying you have access to it. Even if you see a party member casting the spell, you are not able to copy it from their spell book unless you yourself have access.
