| Gargoyle11708-02-07, 11:21 AM | Is Flawless Stride from the Scout base class (Complete Adventurer) the same as Woodland Stride from Druid and Ranger? As near as I can tell, they are the exact same effect. The reason I ask is that my Scout will be taking Forest Reeve (Complete Champion) shortly. One of the abilities of the class is Woodland Stride, but if you already have that ability, it grants you +10 Fast Move instead. Naturally this +10 Fast Move is highly desirable to me as a melee Scout. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I believe it should grant scouts with Flawless Stride the +10 Move since Woodland Stride does nothing for the Scout. That’s what the additional wording to the Forest Reeve class appears to be for. It is supposed to stack with these classes. Woodland Stride from SRD: Woodland Stride (Ex): Starting at 2nd level, a druid may move through any sort of undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, and similar terrain) at her normal speed and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment. However, thorns, briars, and overgrown areas that have been magically manipulated to impede motion still affect her. Flawless Stride and the Forest Reeve Woodland Stride abilities are not available via the SRD. Thanks in advance for the help, Dom from Highfolk |

| RtrnofdMax08-02-07, 02:36 PM | I seem to remember something about flawless stride applying to rubble and scree (loose rock). So it seems like woodland stride applies to fewer "rough terrain" features than flawless stride. As for whether having flawless stride encompasses woodland stride, I would say it does for abilities, but not for feat prereqs. |
| Timlagor08-02-07, 02:46 PM | Strictly speaking you would have to have the right names abilty. I suspect that you already have a speed bonus from Scout and that the other one is also Enhancement and wouldn't stack anyway.. but I haven't looked. |
| RtrnofdMax08-02-07, 04:10 PM | So are you saying that being a barbarian/scout doesn't entitle you to faster movement from both classes? |
| bitznarf08-02-07, 04:14 PM | Barbarian fast movement is an untyped bonus and thus stacks with everything. Scout fast movement is an enhancement bonus and doesn't stack with things like Dervish fast movement (whatever the actual ability is called) and haste. |
| Gargoyle11708-02-07, 06:14 PM | The bonus from Woodland Stride with Forest Reeve stacking with Druid is an unnamed +10 bonus to your land speed. It is listed as an Ex (exceptional?) ability gained at 2nd level of Reeve. It says you move through natural areas without taking damage and to reference the Druid class feature (PH 36). It then says if you already have Woodland Stride, you gain a +10 foot bonus to your land speed. The Forest Reeve class also gives you Fast Move at 1st level. It specifically states that if you already have Fast Move from another source such as Barbarian, it stacks. This all suggests that Forest Reeve is meant to play nicely with these classes. I believe that it should stack for speed bonuses. |
| bitznarf08-02-07, 06:16 PM | If you don't actually quote it word for word, it makes it hard for those of us that don't have the books in front of us to try to form an accurate opinion. |
| Gargoyle11708-02-07, 06:18 PM | From Forest Reeve Woodland Stride (Ex): Beginning at 2nd level, you can move through natural overgrown areas at normal speed without damage. See the druid class feature (PH 36). If ycu already have woodland stride, you gain a +10-foot bonus to your land speed. Just trying to do the right thing |
| bitznarf08-02-07, 06:25 PM | From that I don't think that the Scout class feature interacts with it in any way. It specifically mentions the druid's class feature. If yet another class referenced the druid's class feature then I would think you would get the +10 foot land speed. As for fast movement from the forest reeve, so long as it is not an enhancement bonus it will stack with scout. If it is an enhancement bonus it will be called such. It could very well be an untyped bonus though like the barbarian's. P.S. The fair use clause allows for people to quote snippets of information without violating copyright, so you are entirely fine on that front. |
| jstorrie08-02-07, 08:03 PM | You must specifically have Woodland Stride. Scouts do not have Woodland Stride, so they gain it from Forest Reeve, even though it is redundant. |
