05-02-06, 09:16 AM In ONW 1-07: Hunters Hunted, Kerrigan introduces a new affliction called the "Wyrm of Syrul" - a terrible worm that crawls inside wounds and causes divination magic to reveal false information through misdirection.

Q0: Are there any other sources for the Wyrm of Syrul?

Q1: Would you consider this a parasite or a disease? Rules-wise, does it even make a difference? I'm not aware of any rules for parasites, per se.

Q2: Assuming it's a disease, would you consider it extraordinary in nature (a la filth fever) or supernatural? I'm leaning toward supernatural because of the odd "damage" the WoS does. It also helps that the WoS is associated with a deity.

Q3: How would you go about figuring out the DC for the Fortitude save. Misdirection is a 2nd-level arcane spell, if that has any bearing on it...

Q4: What incubation period would you use for the WoS? Would it be immediately effective, like when contagion is cast? I'm thinking the worm should take a least an hour or so to find it's way to the host's brain (or wherever) and dig in.

Q5: How would you quantify the damage, both primary and secondary? Would you apply a penalty to the host's effective caster level on all divination spells? I've never even heard of a disease that does something like this before...

05-02-06, 03:29 PM Most of these questions seem like they should be directed toward's Onwall's triad. The triad has surely considered the implications of using this new affliction and has more specific knowledge about the issues involved.

On a general list like this, asking such specific information about something in a module constitutes spoiler info, IMO.

05-02-06, 06:45 PM I'm pretty sure that a year 1 regional mod is retired by now, and thus spoilers are ok.

I concur though, that for such a specific thing, ask the triad what the current ruling is.

05-03-06, 04:16 AM The affliction have been used in other more recent Onnwal scenarios - I think mostly on NPCs though. People are correct though that these are questions you should direct to the Onnwal Triad.

That's fairly optomistic. Active players often have a lot of characters, and only the top few actually get played. It isn't at all uncommon to have a long time LG player to pull out a char with 1-2 AR's for an intro mod that last played in 2002 or 2001.

It's unusual, but not as unlikely as you'd think.

I'd contact Paul Looby, who is now on the Splinteredsuns metaregional triad. He used to be onnwal triad, back in year 2 when this mod was still in play.

Or contact anyone in the present Onnwal triad.

05-05-06, 04:55 AM Actually, at the moment Paul Looby is not involved in any official LG capacity. He stepped down as a Circle member last year and I replaced him. Note that I don't have the material at hand - it was developed while I was a Triad member in Sunndi. So I would need to go to the Onnwal triad as well. Another good place to post the questions btw would be on the Splintered Suns or Onnwal mailing list.

05-18-06, 12:54 PM I think the wurm is mostly used as a plot-device, often to make things like detect evil unreliable. I know I've been confounced at least once.
