I have few complaints about the new conversion document, other than my Über-Tracking Ranger loses his Goggles of Following, but I was wondering what everyone else is going to do to their characters.

How many will just reboot, how many will tweak, and how many are P.O.'ed at the whole thing?

I must admit that when the 3.5 conversion came out I totally revamped my main character and converted most of my levels to ranger with a few levels of fighter. Now I just left 1 fighter level in so that I could have heavy armor proficiency and converted the other level to Horizon Walker so that I can be one step closer to that Shifting Planar Mastery that I've been wanting.

I'm interested in finding out what all you people that really relied on the builder books are doing.

I did not rely on builder books, my main character being ranger6/fighter2.

However, with the conversion I will probably become ranger6/ftr1/beastmaster1 because I like that prestige class.

My secondaries are all level 1, so not much is going to change there. However, my primary is going to change from straight bard to a bard/fighter hybrid. I'll still be able to take Warchanter at the same character level, and I'll be able to get the High Sword Low Axe combat style.

I'm going to change most of my characters around I think. I've got 3 or 4 of them.

My main, a Sorc 8 is going to become a Sorc 5/Divine Oracle 3, which will lead into Loremaster at 10. I'm considering changing my familiar as well into a raven.

My secondary is going to stay Pal 4/Sorc 1 in the effort to become a Dragon Diciple, but is going to change some of his feats and skills around to better make use of them. Have him focus on a scymitar<sp?> instead of his scythe.

Then I've got minor guys I do intro mods with who need to be converted just to make a better plan for them. A different level 2 sorc is going to go Bard. He's got 18 cha, may as well.

I thought it was very good as well as generous. The final version allowed you to drop Leadership. My 11th level bard 9/Cleric1/Ft 1 had it and I've decided to keep it. I'm dropping Ftr and Cleric and going Fouchlan Lyricist (sp?) So I'll be Druid 1/Rog 2/Bard 7/FL 1. I thought that was a pretty cool prestige class.

My 12th level (Ftr 4/Ranger 5/DWS 2/Knight of the Dispatch 1) archer is losing Deepwood Sniper. But I'm just taking more Ranger levels for the additional spells and class abilities. Some of the new spells in Complete Adventurer are pretty cool like Arrow Mind and Exacting Shot.

My primary is getting reworked since a big part of his identity is as a pure Suel, I'm taking both of the Suel feats (which means I lose some combat effectiveness, but oh well)...

I thought about that, since my main char's background is that he is the son of a former member of the Scarlet Brotherhood, but in the end, I decided that I wanted to do more of a riding oriented Ranger/Fighter/Horizon Walker and reworked my feats that way.

Since I had a few skill points left over with the conversion, I dumped quite a few into speak language (as HW gets it as a class skill), so now he can speak all the PC racial languages, except Druid. I'm gonna have to dump some points into bluff or diplomacy next, cause what good is speaking all them languages if you make em mad with your lack of decorum?

Heh...our characters sound like polar opposites...

Mine is Onnwallon Suel whose family was killed by the Brotherhood because they refused to serve as breeding stock, has killed 30 brotherhood to date, keeps a long braid of hair (his dead wifes) with individual plaits died with the blood of the brotherhood he's killed, keeps the skull of a high ranking brotherhood monk in his pack, kills all brotherhood on sight, was captured by the brotherhood and as a campaign consequence they took his eye (-3 hp permenently) and 13 TUs in captivity...

As for skills, every knowledge, as many languages as possible, maxed out on intimidate...And a fighter...

Well my Fighter6/Ranger1 Dwarven Defender to be will probably become a Fighter4/Ranger3 since as I had to level him between sessions of a convention I blanked on the fact I meant to level him in Ranger starting at 5th level. Given that Endurance is free at Ranger3, I don't lose any Feats in the process. I'll also probably make his first level Ranger for the added skill points as well. It costs me a few HP, but given my 18 Con, he can safely afford to give up a few for the added skill points.

My Fighter5/OrderBowInitiate1 will likely become a Fighter2/Ranger3/OrderBowInitiate1. I originally had thought to become an Arcane Archer but changed my mind midway as I enjoyed the pure archer concept. By that point, I would have taken an XP penalty to add Ranger, so I stayed straight Fighter.

Ahhh! The beauties of playing Humans or Half-Elves means never having to take an XP penalty (unless for some reason you have more than 2 base classes)

I'm going to turn my 5 Weapon Master levels into 3 Exotic Weaponmaster and 2 Darkhagard for my secondary. They seemed like a good fit for a Rhennee :þ

I'm starting to feel the same way about my Dwarf. I just realized that I can go Bard4/Fighter1 and then start taking Warchanter levels - which is sooner than most races can go without taking the multiclassing penalty.

Right now before conversion hits I am a 13th level strait Bard. After conversion hits. I am going 10 levels of Bard, three levels of Sublime Chord. My next level is a dilemma. I don't know if I should go Marshal next or Sublime Chord. If I go with Marshal, the aura I pick up enhances initiative checks and Dexterity checks. If I go Sublime Chord, I pick up Chain Lightning and Prismatic Ray. What to do, what to do?

I'm personally giving up.

My main character was built on a swashbuckling concept all the way (fighter/rogue) and I won't be able to convert to a full swashbuckler with the new conversion documents.

LG was a nice board game but I am now looking forward to a real roleplay thing, not a simple roll play.

Have fun guys. ;)

For me the conversion is time to sort out my multiclassed mess. For my regular group we needed two-three classes that weren't covered until we got another player. Now I can go to 2 which is a bit more sensible.

My query is though what is the ruling on Equipment.

Can we sell for full or is it half. I realise that its full for the items that no longer exist. However can I for instance sell my full plate +2 for full and get chain shirt +2 ?

The conversion document states that we can sell any removed items, plus any one other item for full price.

On Topic,

Does this sound okay for a Main Melee Damage Dealer for a group. Our group is very spell orientated but I will be giving up 3 levels of cleric to try and get improvement on my fighting capabilities.

Barb1
Fighter4
Rogue3
Exotic Weapon 1

Total 9th level

Stats (modified from gloves of ogre and amulet of health)

Str 20 Dex 10 Con 16 Int 12 Wis 11 Cha 08

Feats (Human 1,3,6,9 - Ftr 1,2,4 = 8 Total)
Close Quarter Combat
Power Attack
Exotic Spiked Chain
Focus Spiked Chain
Specialise Spiked Chain
Improved Toughness
Extra Rage
Staggered Strike

With the flanking, raging, flurry of strikes (EWM), haste and staggered strike we are talking huge damage plus the horrible Fort Save or be staggered.

Oh did I mention the +1 Frost Spiked Chain.

Now I want to know is there a way I can improve this build. Its not too much different from my current character which is Rog1,Brb2,Ftr2,Clr3,EWM1. I want to know If there is any feat or class I should take out and replace with another.

All help is most appreciated.

You're going to be taking a 20% experience penalty with this build. I'd go ahead and take a second level of Barbarian before taking EWM.

Just wondering. If you were a cleric with only 11 wisdom, how did you manage? Remember that you are not allowed to switch ability scores in conversion.

From Conversion Document "Page 1 Stage 2 - ... You may reassign your ability score increases from leveling at 4th 8th etc however you see fit."

From what I read you can switch the ability improvements that you made at 4th and 8th. At 4th I went Str+1 which will stay the same. However I originally for my 8th put the +1 on Wisdom combined with a periapt to give me 14. I still have the 8th bonus to reassign to one of my stats.

Should I do Con then get another at 12 or do that with Str ?

Not quite, I am human and the favoured class for me is Barbarian. EWM is a prestige so its only Fighter and Rogue that Count and they are within 1 level of one another.

This has been a very hard character to design. I want a sort of mercenary type person.

As a human, your highest level class is a preferred class.

That is fighter, level 4. Your rogue and barbarian levels are two apart, so you are subject to experience point penalties.

Yes thats correct, I've always thought it was just one class you could ignore like the other races :(

Thankfully that has not affected my character up until now so I don't need to have it sorted.

Assuming I am about halfway between 9th and 10th maybe its worth my while just taking the 20% penalty until 10th level and at 10th I should take another barbarian to stop the penalty.

It will be the equivelant of an extra adventure to go up a level. Probobaly worth it considering the vast improvement that the EWM gives. Its an extra attack a round.

Hey..gots me a question. I originally planned on having my ranger be a multi-combat ranger. But now that convertion is coming, I was wondering if I could change things around to be more archery type. I was going to go for HW, taking a single level in OotB Initiate first to get more damage.

My question is, with the new convertion...what happens to magic items and special items that need to be listed? Can I get rid of my short sword collection at full price and get a good bow, or will I have to sell everything normally?
Rhuadar

02-25-05, 10:48 AM
If the item goes out of the campaign due to the builder books you get full refund.

You can sell ONE other item at full price the rest at half as normal.

So if you have 2 standard magical shortswords then you can sell one for full and one for half.

I'm doing little tweaks to match how the characters turned out in play, vs how I originally planned them.

Main character is getting skill points reshuffled a bit, and is swapping weapon focus grapple for close quarter fighting.

Archer is unchanged probably (although I'm still looking at the skill points..I have a balanced spot/listen/survival setup and might tweak it to emphasize spot or survival a touch more)

Sorceress is swapping a couple feats around to get her metamagic earlier. I might change the order she takes a couple spells known, to have them now instead of level 6-7. Still debating that. Skills reshuffled to remove a few she never used in 5 levels, for more ranks in skills she did use.

Warchanter wannabee is probably swapping the order of his levels to get more skill points. I had no idea he'd take such offense at not being able to speak a language or decipher writings in underground settings until I played him. This will cost me 3hp to get something like 14 more skill points to fix up the communication aspect of the character.

I'm probably going to have to try to min/max as much as I can... of course, many elemts of the character are unchangeable per the conversion doucment. As the current LG rules stand, I can either choose to play without using most of my feats, or try to use the feats but be severely limited in play. Right now, I've played 2 scenarios since the beginning of the year, and I'm down to 26 TUs... if course, most of that is due to a hope that LG will at some point become a roleplaying game. :)

i currently have a L5 Halfling Monk. I was originally thinking of becoming Clere/Mnk2 because I can never seem to find anyone to buff me. However, I just looked at the abilities of a scout and am thinking that their mobility combat feats combine well with my tumbling monk. Maybe scout 2-3/Monk 2-3. Any suggestions?
JohnduBois

03-16-05, 11:10 AM
My biggest suggestion would be to not convert your character into any levels of Scout, because you're not allowed to do that. You can keep any scout levels you had pre-conversion (which is, of course, zero because it wasn't legal before March 1), but you cannot add new levels of any new base class at conversion. My roommate, however, is playing a full-blooded monk (a halfling at that), and the only options he's looking at for mutli or PrC is Tattooed Monk. If more mobility is what you're looking for, consider taking the multiclassing XP penalty and add some levels of Scout (skirmish is especially cool), but I wouldn't try to add anything to the monk levels at this time.

You cannot do it, since you must have levels of the new base class before the conversion if you want them and even then you cannot add more levels of it than you already have. For example, Ftr4/marshall1 could not become Marshall5 because the character only has one level of it.

OK the before and after pictures

Before Rog7/ShD3/ThAcro4
After Rog12/ShD2

I am loosing a swarm of feats from acrobat but on reviewing what happened in past mods they had no real effect so all I loose is the free early ImpEvasion which never comes into play anyways.... heck most spells kill even at 1/4 damage. I will be taking the skill mastery still for all my move based skills - dumping open lock and slight of hand since neither are used so to boost my read languages which will booost my UMD which is already maxed out.
The shadow familiar is neat but way too dependant on GM handling of another NPC follower that is intelligent and supportive of the players and not killing it off at a whim.

Stats are 6/28(gloves4/AR1)/10/14/10/10 :P
Yep - sucks in melle but reasonably good support archer with a seeking (no cover effects) frost shortbow (no str mods - slightly smaller range)

Still looking for a ring of Blinking :(

Most of my feats are burned on the prereqs for Shadow Dancer - Hide in plain sight is sweet as long as GMs dont re-interpret the hide as a full action - I have to rememeber to sticky the pages in the PHB and DMG that say its a free action just like a regular hide - so I don't have to snipe since my Hide/MovSilent is reasonably good (max ranks/halfling/cloak/SilentArmor/etc)

Any suggestions or comments

Hide is not a free action. The PHB is quite clear that it is a move action when it occurs after an attack.
