Hello,

I am an experienced DM who has just recently begun a LG campaign and I have a couple of questions that I need answered:

1) If a party finds some disposable items and use them during the course of the adventure (like a cure light wounds potion or something) how does that affect the AR and what items they are permitted to buy?

2) MY LG campaign is a home game and I was wondering what would happen of the party was to make it to 7th or 8th level and one of them was to irrevocably die? If that person wanted to rejoin would he have to do so at 1st level, effectively reducing the APL?

If a party uses some disposable items they found in the adventure, the value of those disposable items is subtracted from the total loot found during that adventure. If those items were also on the AR, you'll need to strike them off as well. Same goes for magic items that were destroyed (sundered for instance).

Yes. Which is why I usually encourage people to have more than one character, since it means that if one of your fellow PCs dies, you'll still have a way to play with him. :)

As a new LG judge myself I have a few questions to ask also:
Some of the characters have joined a few different Meta-Orgs, some of these are pretty basic in their requirements and benefits, one is giving me a headache. Specifically its the University of Loftwick in the Yeomanry region, To join and gain the benefits one must spend 250gp and 4 TUs to pay for tuition and expenses and attend the courses, once paid and the years courses completed you graduate to Alumnus status. All Alumni are required to spend 100gp per year and 1 TU to maintain active status (this represents giving speeches etc.). A character can spend an additional 50gp and 2 TUs to gain a +2 circumstance bonus to one of a few specific knowledge checks, he can never spend more than 100gp per year and never gain more than a +2 to any one of the knowledge checks in this manner.

Question 1: Does the character need to pay the upkeep on the 4 TUs initially spent taking the courses ?
Question 2: Does the "Alumnus" need to pay the 100gp and TUs in the same year he graduates, or does this start after the first year? Is it perhaps an option in the first year (say the character wanted to get the +2 bonus immediately after graduating).
Question 3: If one did spend the extra gold and TUs to get the bonus to the knowledge checks does it ever expire? There is no time limit listed in the benefits defined in the meta-org description.

Not sure if anyone out there can answer these, but I tried to contact my regions POC with no luck. Even answers based off rulings in other regions with different meta-orgs are welcome. Thanks....

"If a party uses some disposable items they found in the adventure, the value of those disposable items is subtracted from the total loot found during that adventure."

True, but to expand a little on this: on the AR, if they destroy, use or otherwise eliminate an item that would otherwise be listed on the AR for access, it is gone. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that the value of it is gone. This is often a tricky issue for judges new to LG to get a handle on.

Basically, there's two numbers you have to worry about -- total possible loot, and maximum gold reward. The maximum any PC can take away from a module is what is listed on the AR, but many modules end up with far more than that total in gold recoverable -- it is this larger total that you remove any lost or missed loot from, not the AR total.

For example, a table plays Module X at APL 6. At that APL, the maximum gold they can come away with is, say, 1500gp. However, during the course of the module, the PCs might be able to acquire up to 1850 gp worth of loot and treasure. Thus, they can spend and/or destroy and/or miss finding up to 350gp worth of loot before it begins to affect their 'take-home' pay.

Of course, the players won't know what that larger total is, so they should still be careful not to be wasteful or negligent with the treasure they find...

1. I haven't seen a ruling that addresses this issue, but I have always paid 12gp for each TU that I spend doing meta-org entry and upkeep. Maybe it differs from region to region.

2. The way I'm reading the meta-org on the Yeomanry website makes it look like that 100gp and 1 TU is the annual upkeep that all meta-orgs have. The first year you join is the 4 TUs and 250gp. On Jan 1 of the next calendar year you would pay the 100gp and 1 TU. After spending the 4 TUs and 250gp to join, you could also spend up to 100gp and 4 TUs for the knowledge bonuses. There isn’t anything in the text that says you have to wait a year.

3. If you read the text more closely, you'll find that this is a yearly expenditure, so it would expire on Dec 31, unless you paid your annual meta-org upkeep and then respent the 50gp and 2 TUs on Jan 1 of the next gaming year.
