Has anyone advanced Gumboots (crocodile from an AR) as an animal companion? I am doing it now using the standard HD/stat bumps and it takes him to Giant (Huge) and he seems a bit overpowered.

I am not complaining, but I want to be sure I am doing it right. Thanks!

animal companions DO NOT increase in size for HD bumps!!!

in general crocs and giant crocs are not the best animal companions UNLESS you have a water/swamp heavy module.

they are SLOW on land, and only have ONE attack, either bite and grab to drown OR tail slap.

unless your croc has some really interesting features from being an unique AR critter, i wouldn't take to much effort with it.

How is he becoming huge? The FAQ states very specifically that animal companions don't gain size with HD (compared to most advanced monsters, which do) so if that's where it's coming from, it doesn't work. If it has something to do with the AR entry for Gumboots... then I have no idea, since I've never seen that particular critter (sounds interesting though :) ).

Can you imagine if they did? Oh the fear I'd get when the mod starts and I put out my tiny figurine and then make sure I have room to put out my turtle (as represented by the Gargantuan Blue Dragon)....and then Animal Growth him (thus replacing him with the Colossal Red on the battlemap)?

Ahh. I did not catch that in the stats. I was going off an online SRD. Now, it makes a lot more sense.

Thanks,
