"One Year" - what exactly does that mean? [Archive] - Wizards Community

My group is based in Nyrond.

Many of us are looking into Meta-organizations and other things as well.

In the Meta-Orgs, they have requirements listed as being "Member for 1 year" as well other things.

If I were to 'buy' a membership this close to the end of the Real World year (2004 ends in less than a month), how do I calculate 1 year of membership?

Do you count the remaining TUs until you get a total of 52?

Also, if I buy it now - do I have to buy it again as soon as I play the first module in 2005?

I am also looking at having to spend TUs for my church membership - the same question for this circumstance, do I pay when all the TUs reset in January 2005?

This also affects the Nyrond Adventurers' License - if I bought it at GenCon SoCal (beginning of December), will it last all the way through the 'real year' or do I need to re-purchase it as soon as 2005 starts?

My understanding is that requirements like "member for one year" count as real-time. Thus, if you join a metaorg at "level one" of that metaorg in an LG module you play today (12/14/04), and "level two" of that metaorg requires "membership for one year", you couldn't take "level two" before 12/14/05.

As far as TUs and GPs that have to be paid for ongoing membership in a metaorg (e.g., "annual dues"), those are paid in each "game year." So, if you joined such a metaorg today, you'd have to pay both now, and the first time you played in 2005.

But, hey, I could be mistaken.

That is how they work in the Yeomanry, with "real time". I joined a few this year, I paid dues this year, I will have to pay dues next year, and cannot fulfill the 1 year requirements until late next year. Its still better to join this year rather than next because "real time" will never be shorter in regards to when you joined, meaning the sooner you join, the sooner you get to the one year mark.

Your Triad can confirm if the particular Meta-org in your region is one year "real time" or one year "game time".

My understanding is that requirements like "member for one year" count as real-time.... This is correct, regarding membership in Nyrond Met-organizations. Membership, as a Licensed Adventurer for example, is tabulated from the day you join in the real world until the same dat one year later. You will not incur the membership fee or Time Unit cost until one year later (approximated given that you may not game on the exact same day as you joined the previous year).

Here is the Nyrond Yahoo Group. All of the region's Triad members are daily regulars there. YOu may ask any question about the region there, and they will kindly answer: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Nyrond-lw/

Also, note that Nyrond is still amending its Meta-org document. There is a preview available HERE (http://f3.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/UDXAQf6nYIoaX5ECFhuBt5Mg858HEiX7CQ53YGd-PYqTjFP-7xdLEgv5gtrawUbKFU3yJtWth86MIIogGnWM0ITa-QHG/NyrondMetaorgBooklet594-4.pdf). It has been whittled down considerably. Make sure your charactet conforms to the latest changes.

I hope this helps. Happy gaming.

Greyson, thanks for your post.

My group is excited by the prospect of prepping for our 3rd venture into SoCal GenCon and we want to start hitting something higher than APL2, and also know a little bit about how things work. All of us have been doing as much research as possible.

Your Yahoo link works fine, but the one for the updated Meta-Org document seems to be not working. I would love to see this as it seems the one released in Nov 2004 is still referring to outdated books like DotF and outdated spells like Curse of the Brute!

I have got nothing but kind responses from our Triad members in Nyrond - it must be good to be Nyrond!

We rule!
