08-25-05, 02:41 PM I have been looking for clarification on this but I have been unable to find anything on it.

Animal Companions get feats and skill points as they advance in HD like PCs, however, do the animal companions also gain the +1 attribute every 4 HD as PCs do?

Could anyone point me out where I could get clarification on this? I've checked the PHB, DMG, MM, 3.5 FAQ, LGSC FAQ, and the Erratas. I have had no luck.

08-25-05, 08:48 PM Page 34 of the LGCS 4.2 states what you get when you add HD to a creature you are allowed to bring along (animal companion, paladin mount, horse you bought), and it doesn't mention stat bumps. I haven't been able to find anything that says creatures that advance by hit dice gain stat bumps. I take this to mean that only by taking class levels do you gain stat bumps.

09-03-05, 03:22 PM When your animal companion levels according to the chart in the PHB, you get what it states and NOTHING MORE. Still pretty good, since each bump includes an increase to both Dex and Str.

Also, if you are advancing a monster by adding Hit Dice, it does get the stat increase per 4 HD, I believe, although I may be wrong on that part...
